Job Description
Position Summary
Reporting directly to the Software Engineering Manager, as a Back-End Developer, you will develop, design and test, the best software for our customers. You will work with a small team of software developers to deliver from concept to delivery on cloud first solutions.
As a back-end developer you will be responsible for managing the interchange of data between the server and users. Your primary focus will be development of all server-side logic, definition, and maintenance of the data sources, and ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the front-end.
You will design and collaborate on software solutions that suitably fits the business problem and product vision. You will be required to work closely with product, business analysts and designers to ensure the technical guidelines are met, best practices applied, and the needs of the customers are put first.
Work undertaken will include updating existing systems and integrating improvements to work on the applications already in operation. This includes performing adequate testing of all new and existing code to ensure the code functions as intended and is as much as possible error-free.
You will work collaboratively with other team members to design innovative solutions that improve and simplify our various products and brands. You will collaborate with the team to design, develop and deploy new features and functionality as required.
As a Back-End Developer you will possess a significant understanding programming language, systems frameworks, and hosting environments. Security compliance is also of importance, especially regarding cyber security.
You will contribute to the design and build the evolution of our digital solutions, ensuring they remains scalable, reliable, and easy to use.

The key duties and responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
General
You will ensure applications are optimised for speed and convenience, and make sure existing platforms can be scaled up in the future
Collaborate with Front-end developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic
Implement data storage solutions as part of the overall design, and maintaining their effectiveness
Design and develop robust APIs to support web and mobile needs
Troubleshoot and debug applications
Build reusable code and libraries for future use
Write business logic, server scripts, and APIs that will later be used by the other developers and members of the team.
An understanding of microservices patterns, where and when to use them
User authentication and authorisation between multiple systems, servers, and environments
Integration of multiple data sources, internal and external systems
Understand the differences between multiple delivery platforms such as mobile vs desktop, and optimising output to match the specific platform
Proficient understanding of OWASP security principles
Understanding of "session management" in a distributed server environment
Be involved in and take ownership of end-to-end delivery - from solution design, estimation, development, testing, and deployment.
Uphold quality standards including reliability, efficiency, security, maintainability, and usability by applying best practice processes, methodologies, and tools.
Contribute to engineering discussions across our solutions.
Provide strong testing and debugging skills at all levels, including unit, system, integration, and performance testing and debugging software to keep it optimised
Working with product designers to design new features
Keep up with technological advances to optimise software
Understanding of scaling applications to handle the load changes that is a large amount of data traffic.
Write original code and update existing code, ensuring that all code meets requirements.
Provide recommendations for continuous improvement.

Essential
Relevant tertiary IT qualifications and certification or related discipline
Fluent in .NET C#
Previous experience with .NET Core
Experience with event driven architecture and microservices
Experience with Microsoft Azure or another public cloud platforms
Experience building and consuming REST API's
Solid background in operating relational and non-relational databases (SQL and NoSQL)
Experience with CI/CD pipeline technologies, and tools such as GitHub Actions and Octopus Deploy
Experience in Version control systems sand management tools such as Git
Experience with Scrum/Agile development methodologies
Desirable
Experience with backend services like containers, Kubernetes, and cloud technologies such as Azure
Excellent foundation in computer science, algorithms, and web design principles
