Authorities & Responsibilities
 
1. Materials Selection and Evaluation:
Select materials for construction projects based on performance requirements, cost, availability, and sustainability.
Evaluate and recommend materials such as concrete, asphalt, steel, aggregates, and other composite materials for use in construction projects.
2. Testing and Quality Control:
Conduct testing on construction materials to ensure they meet quality standards and specifications.
Oversee laboratory testing of materials (e.g., compressive strength tests for concrete, gradation tests for aggregates).
Develop and implement quality control measures to ensure materials used in construction are compliant with specifications.
3. Material Performance Monitoring:
Monitor the performance of materials used in ongoing construction projects.
Perform field tests to assess the in-situ performance of materials (e.g., field density tests for soil compaction).
Analyze and document material-related issues or failures, and recommend corrective actions or substitutions.
Design and Specification Development:
Work with design engineers and architects to define material specifications for various construction applications.
Develop technical specifications for materials, including guidelines for handling, storage, and testing.
 5. Site Inspections
Conduct site inspections to ensure that materials are being used correctly and safely on construction sites.
Ensure that construction practices comply with industry standards, building codes, and environmental regulations.
6.  Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare technical reports on material testing, quality control, and performance.
Maintain accurate records of material usage, specifications, and testing data.
Job Specification:
 EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Materials Engineering, or related field.
Must be an Accredited Materials Engineer
EXPERIENCE: At least 3 years of experience in construction materials engineering or civil engineering.
SKILLS and COMPETENCIES:
Strong understanding of construction materials (e.g. concrete, asphalt, aggregates)
Expertise in materials testing, quality control, and failure analysis.
Knowledge of construction codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., ASTM, ACI).
Familiarity with industry-standard testing equipment(e.g., MATLAB, laboratory testing equipment).
Ability to assess material performance under different environmental conditions.
Strong communication skills for reporting findings and collaborating with contractors, clients, and teams.
