This position requires relocation to Guyana, South America.
The Retail Manager is responsible for setting up and developing Penha branded stores in Guyana. The Retail Manager is also responsible for effectively managing the operational, logistical and people management aspects of all stores to achieve sales targets.
Setup Operation
Manage planning and build out process for all new stores
Manage project and effectively influence, negotiate, and communicate with project partners including landlords, real estate managers, construction managers, architects etc.
Provides timelines and manages deadlines with cross-functional departments to ensure timely store opening
Review/evaluate construction plans, specifications, estimates, budget, and schedule
Track and obtain required approvals, internal/external
Establish effective relationships along with an understanding of permit processes and schedules
Manage all trades to ensure timelines are being met, work is accurate, complete and in compliance with the plans and brand quality standards
Lead weekly coordination meetings to keep all parties aligned on scope and schedule
Hire staff according to staff plan (Store Manager(s), sales staff, logistics staff)
Drive Sales
Achieve store sales targets and implement strategies to improve sales and high customer engagement
Focus on building customer database and loyal clients
Ensure staff sell effectively through coaching and training
Ensure product knowledge training by brand/category
Reports on actual vs target sales. Review, analyse and utilize reports; implement action plans focusing on deficient areas
Work closely with Category Managers and Marketing to make store layout decisions that will increase sales
Be aware of market trends in the travel/ local retail industry, understand forthcoming customer initiatives and monitor what local competitors are doing
Development and execution of sales strategies working with Marketing team
Execution of promotional programs working together with Category Managers and partners/suppliers/vendors to maximise sales, and maximize vendor contribution, and product training for staff
Responsible for Retail Sales Staff / People Management
Ensure supervisors/ managers take good care to solve customer complains/issues
Ensure standards for quality, customer service is met by all staff
Ensure store looks great, interior and exterior maintained to Penha and Airport standards
Get involved in team/ people management as needed to ensure that staff are motivated, engaged, performing and working as one team
Provide effective and constructive performance feedback to staff through performance reviews
Provide regular communication updates to staff
Encourage a culture of coaching, professional development and self-improvement
Ensure performance issues are addressed on a timely basis and take corrective action when/ as necessary
Setup regular store team meetings and ensure staff are updated on store targets, business performance, any new initiatives and other pertinent issues
Key Requirements:
Must have at least 5+ years in travel retail/ duty free/ luxury retail management role
University degree is preferable
Sound financial awareness and ability to optimise business performance
Proven experience leading, motivating, training and inspiring large teams (15+ employees)
Excellent verbal communication skills in English
Able to work under pressure, flexible and willing to work nights, holidays and weekends
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to mentor staff to drive sales and ensure best-in-class execution across your area
Sound leadership skills, and a strong personal sense of responsibility
Excellent skill to develop relationships, especially with internal teams
