ICU NURSE
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Evaluate and monitor the patient’s progress.
2. Identify sudden or subtle changes in a patient’s medical condition.
3. Deliver regular updates to doctors, patients, and their family members.
4. If necessary, respond to a medical emergency and alert the appropriate doctors.
5. Care for patient needs throughout the recovery in the ICU unit.
6. Complete all necessary paperwork before transferring a patient.
7. Renders professional nursing care to patients within an assigned unit of the hospital, in support of medical care as directed by medical staff and pursuant to the objectives and policies of the hospital.
8. Performs nursing techniques for the comfort and well-being of the patient.
9. Prepares equipment and assists physician during treatment and examinations of patients.
10. Administers prescribed medication orally and by injections; provides treatments using therapeutic equipment; observes patients’ reactions to medications and treatments; observes progress of intravenous infusions and subcutaneous infiltrations; changes or assists physicians in changing dressings and cleaning wounds or incisions; takes vital signs to detect deviations from normal and monitor progress of patients, following physician’s orders and approved plan of care.
11. Observes records and reports to Senior Nurse and Physician patients’ condition and reaction to drugs, treatments and significant incidents; endorses the same to incoming nursing staff, usually through the Senior Nurse.
12. Maintains patients’ medical records on nursing observations and actions taken such as medication and treatments given, reactions, tests, intake and output of liquids and solids, vital signs.
13. Observes emotional stability of the patients, express interest in their progress and prepares them for continuing care after discharge (discharge planning).
14. Explains procedures and treatments ordered to obtain patient’s cooperation and allay apprehension.
15. Rotates on all shifts and may be asked to rotate among various clinical and nursing services of the hospital.
16. Assists planning, supervising and instructing nursing aides and orderlies / institutional workers; demonstrates
nursing techniques and procedures and assists non-professional nursing personnel in rendering nursing care in unit.
17. Assist with operations and deliveries by preparing rooms, sterilizing instruments, equipment and supplies and handling them in order of use to the surgeon or other medical specialist.
18. Maintains clean and orderly environment of the unit.
19. In the absence of the Senior Nurse or the Ward Clerk, carefully reviews all hospital charges of the patient before forwarding to the office.
20. Maintains unit’s stocks and performs inventory every shift.
21. In the absence of Senior Nurse makes necessary requisitions and job orders.
22. Maintains work operations by following policies and procedures.
23. Protects organization's value by keeping patient information confidential.
24. Carries out other duties and activities that may be delegated by the Senior Nurse and / or Superior without compromising the performance of primary duties and activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing with License
With BLS/ACLS
Trained in IV Therapy
