The Role:
The GIS Engineer will be involved in collecting geographical data by using technology such as GPS to record the location of assets such as street lights and bridges, or transferring details on paper maps, such as the location of pipe lines or telecoms cables, into a digital format.
The GIS Engineer will also develop the programmes best able to store this information as well as tools for transferring data between systems. The GIS Engineer shall determine the best methods to present and communicate this data to project stakeholders in consultation with the project team.
In this role, you will be responsible for -
Preparing MXDs and PMFs for data sharing and mapping.
Preparing map services for GIS applications.
Developing and applying geoprocessing models using model builder and / or python.
Georeferencing and digitising of map data.
Conversion CAD data into GIS.
Analysis and conversion of pointcloud data
Liaising with internal clients, the AUS GIS team and AUS business units.
Undertaking GIS mapping, analysis, data capture, data management and geoprocessing.
Extraction and formatting of AutoCAD or MicroStation data into GIS formats.
Analysing and developing databases.
Preparing, analysing, and integrating Excel data with GIS.
Working with the Project GIS team to deliver GIS deliverables to tight deadlines.
Undertaking quality control of GIS work undertaken by other GIS staff.
Contributing to the technical development of the GIS team through sharing ideas and innovations.
Performing other duties and responsibilities as required from time to time by your manager or Cardno.
About You
To be successful you will be required to have -
Experience with ESRI ArcGIS 10.3 or above.
Working knowledge of relational databases and database design.
Good knowledge of using Microsoft Access and Excel with GIS and project management.
Some experience of programming in either Python, SQL or VBA and a desire to develop these skills further.
Customer focussed approach to quality and service.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to identify innovative solutions to problems.
Well-motivated and team focussed with an ability to work without supervision and act on own initiative.
Understanding and working knowledge of core principles of GIS and GI data management.
Well-motivated and able to work to tight deadlines.
A degree in GIS and/or suitable experience.
Desire to work within a consultancy environment applying GIS to infrastructure, geoscience, and projects.
