Thoroughly document the description and detailed condition of each item submitted for framing.
Measure items to be framed and the parts needed for the frame
Cut matt board, illustration board, frames & other materials using cutting machine
Join pieces of frame together and assemble all the parts to frame the item
Cuts glass to fit frame, using glass-cutting tool.
Cleans glass and places it in upturned frame.
Places picture/artwork on top of glass.
Cuts piece of cardboard to fit frame, and places it on back of picture/artwork.
Pushes or taps brads into frame or uses stapler to staple picture/artwork in place
Glues paper cover to back of frame.
Attaches screw eyes and wire to frame, using hand tools or staple gun.
May frame oil paintings that do not require glass fronts or paper covers.
May repair and redecorate old or broken frames.
Assist in the preservation of historic picture/artwork
At least High School / Technical or Vocational Graduate
Knowledge/experience in Drafting desired
Knowledgeable of different types of materials and frames, colour and design, preservation and conservation materials
Knowledge in framing, matting, repairing techniques
Knowledge in using measuring instruments & machines for framing
Good eye for detail, meticulous worker, capable of neat & precise work, good hand-eye coordination
Some experience in administrative and office work
Independent worker; used to work under minimum supervision.
