JOB SUMMARY & KEY PRIORITIES:
This position will initially assume the Senior Finance Accountant role and report to Director, Finance. By June 2021, it will evolve as Finance Controller which will take on 75% of the tasks currently performed by Director, Finance and 100% by end of calendar year 2021. The organization is in the process of setting up and fully staffing the Shared Service Center in Manila. The selected candidate will play a key role in shaping and mapping financial management accountability within the department and the organization.
The Senior Finance Accountant supports the Finance Department with accurate and timely processing, reviewing, reconciling and maintenance of a variety of transactions, documents, records and internal/external reports. Other tasks are assigned as necessary relating to the financial operations of the organization. Work is performed by applying knowledge of accounting principles and using spreadsheets and/or automated accounting systems.
As the Shared Service Center is fully staffed and offshoring of function is completed, the Finance Controller is expected to lead all accounting operations of GFUSA, overseeing all accounting-related activities including financial record-keeping, accounts payable, accounts receivable, monthly and annual closes, and preparation of financial statements for management, the Board, and external stakeholders. The Controller will have oversight on grants and contract management, and will manage the organization's annual audit, and any statutory or donor-related audits. He/She will ensure accuracy of financial records, oversee cash flow projections, support financial systems maintenance, and lead or participate in finance and organization-wide process improvement projects.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS & QUALIFICATION:
The ideal candidate will have the following professional and personal qualifications and experiences:
Minimum of 10 years senior level financial experience with a small to midsize nonprofit organization or in a public accounting firm working with nonprofit clients, preferred
Proven experience and knowledge of accounting theory and practice in a non-profit environment. Experience with non-profit accounting principles generally accepted in the United States of America, preferred.
CPA required
Strong award management knowledge and experience
Experience with compliance management for US government and foundation grants
Experience with intercompany accounting and consolidation, preferred.
Experience with processing payroll and managing benefit programs, preferred.
Experience with preparing statutory tax filings and other reports, preferred.
Ability to multitask; flexibility to adjust to changing demands and priorities, to meet organizational and external stakeholders' deadlines
Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information
Detail oriented and excellent problem-solving, planning, and analytical skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively and tactfully with a variety of individuals within and outside the organization
Demonstrate an innovative and collaborative mindset when problem-solving
Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all levels of employees, teams, management and external partners.
Ability to think strategically and plan for long-term goals.
Experience with budget preparation, financial management and reporting.
Experience with the design and implementation of accounting processes and systems.
Demonstrated experience with financial system reporting tools and creating or modifying financial reports using reporting tools.
Skilled in enterprise accounting and information systems as well as personal software programs such as MS Excel, Word, Outlook and Access.
Experience working in a global/multicultural organization across multiple time zones a strong plus.
