Job Description:
A family based in Punta Engaño, Mactan is seeking a full time, live in, Family Assistant & Caregiver. Because we live on a high floor in a condominium, we are preferably looking for a male candidate who is physically fit. This is necessary as in the event of an emergency the candidate will need to assist my 89-year-old parent who weighs 170 lbs. down the emergency staircase.
The reason for the combined job responsibility is because my parents are currently independent and healthy and you will start out primarily as a family assistant. Over time, as my parents age and their health changes, your responsibilities will shift more towards caregiving. During times when my parents do not need your assistance, or when they are away, your responsibilities will shift more towards providing me with personal assistant support with tasks related to the business and family.
We are hiring someone now so that we can build a long-term relationship, so that should a health issue occur, the transition will be seamless into caregiving. We are also thinking more about my parents aging because within the last two years my mother survived breast cancer, and my father recovered from an accident where he was hospitalized for over a month.
International travel may be required in order to accompany a parent to medical check-ups, family visits, and other commitments. If you do not have a passport yet, we will apply for one for you.
Your schedule would either be six days on, one day off; twelve days on, two days off; or if you prefer, you can accumulate your days off you don't use to use them in conjunction with your vacation and holidays so you can take longer vacations, so long as we plan it ahead of time so that there is someone to cover for you while you are gone.
Responsibilities:
Family Assistant:
Transportation - Driving any family member wherever they need to go ensure they have freedom of mobility.
Mobility Assistance & Safety - Ensuring my mother and father are safe from slips/trips/falls.
Errands - In support of any family member & family business
Light Housekeeping & Organization - We have a housekeeper who will do the daily general cleaning, but we expect assistance helping keep the house tidy and organized. You will also help manage the periodic maintenance & deep cleanings.
Coordinating Maintenance for Home & Vehicles - Ensuring the vehicles and home are maintained & cleaned.
Overall Family Safety - Fire, vehicular, weather & emergency plans & preparedness
Managing Recurring Household Expenses - HOA dues, utility payments, internet payments
Caregiving:
Planning & Coordinating Activities & Needs of My Parents - Making appointments, coordinating doctor visits, visiting friends, day trips etc.
Grocery Shopping & Meal Preparation - With parents or independently without them. Most of the meal preparation is done by a housekeeper, but it would be good to know how to cook in case no one is around to cook.
Personal Training - Exercise & Strength Management - Walks, Swimming, Weights etc. Helping accompany my parents and keeping them motivated and disciplined when they swim at the beach, the pool, or when they exercise outdoors.
Health & Vitals Tracking - Sleep, Exercise, Weight, Oxygen, Pulse, Blood Pressure, etc. Collecting this data so we can monitor their health.
Cognitive Stimulation - Planning & managing activities (Hiking, Trips, Events etc.)
Medication Management
Daily Activities Assistance - Bathing, Dressing, Feeding (Not Currently Needed but Potentially in the Future)
Business:
Operations & transaction coordination
Assisting with property listings online (Lamudi, Proppit, etc.)
Assisting with documentation and paperwork
Intelligence & information gathering on properties
Assisting with clients
Property showings & key management
Qualifications:
Required Qualifications:
Divers License - Car & Motorcycle - Must have a driver's license or be willing to get one soon after you start for both a car and motorcycle.
Reasonably Fluent in English - Beginner/Intermediate English is Acceptable
Swimming - Must be able to swim well because of beach and pool swimming with elder parents
Organized, flexible, and proactive by nature
Strength & Fitness - Must be able to assist my parents down 17 floors using the staircase in the case of an emergency or fire, and be able to rescue swim since they often swim. Because of the high floor of our condominium, and because my father will be turning 90 years old next year and is 170 lbs., ensuring we are physically capable of protecting them in the case of an emergency is essential.
Must be Able to Pass a Physical Fitness Test. I am setting this minimum benchmark, and we will both have to pass this minimum physical test monthly and we will be doing this together so that we both maintain a high level of fitness. If you are not at this level of fitness yet, we will work up to this level within the first month that you are here.
100 pushups within 5 minutes
100 sit ups within 5 minutes
10 contiguous Chin Ups Followed by 10 contiguous Pull Ups
75-meter length underwater swim with one breath
450-meter swim within 15 minutes
50-meter buddy tow in water
20 minutes - wading in water
Jog 1.5 km in 10 minutes
Fireman's carry 100 lbs. down 20 flights of stairs within 15 minutes, then up five floors.
Desired Skills:
Certified Caregiver or Nurse - If no certification, we are open to starting you at a lower salary and allowing you to attend a course for a caregiver certification.
