ENVIRONMENT, HEALTH AND SAFETY COMPLIANCE ENGINEER
Duties & Responsibilities:
Responsible for implementation of site compliance tasks and assisting the Site EHS Manager with projects. Scope of work includes: enacting compliance assessments, engineering process solutions, trouble operational processes, verifying procedures are followed; chemical use/hazard/risk data is accurately collected and interpreted for reporting and implementing all related EHS management systems. Operates independently on a daily basis with general direction from the Site EHS Manager on new and large projects.
1. Arranges for and ensures the precise collection and calculation of all environmental/safety data across operations and create, finalize and submit the regulatory reports.
2. Monitor process owners to assure the compliance procedures associated with afore mentioned reports are being implemented and maintained. Example data is: biological, radiation, chemical, noise, exhaust systems, emissions, waste characteristics, etc.
3. Identify hazards and analyze the risks associated with hazards across all site operations. Participate in the creation of training materials, procedures and audit programs to help the site manage and lower its hazards/risks.
4. Assists in the review and interpretation of regulations impacting the site and propose options that will assist with the creation and implementation of compliant processes and procedures.
5. Provide the employees/supervisors guidance that will develop compliant solutions, new techniques and opportunities for process improvements.
6. Implement, complete and take action to help ensure regulatory permit requirements, reporting data and environmental management system procedures are continuously monitored and updated as changes occur at the site to maintain compliance. Participates in the use and management of internal audit systems.
7. Create, maintain and deliver the regulatory training programs to assure employees, contractors and visitors are trained in required practices. Participates in external government agency audits and follows up on concerns identified during audits.
8. Coordinate and manage the Sites' emergency planning; including being available 24/7 for responding to site chemical, environmental and/or safety emergencies. This includes being the site's lead emergency coordinator in emergencies involving hazardous materials releases or other safety/environmental impacting emergencies.
8. Support the Site EHS Manager and work in conjunction with other site environmental/safety engineers as needed.
The successful applicant is expected to understand the business objectives, follow standard work instructions, to find and fix problems, continuously seek improvements on various processes and standards; and utilize a wide variety of manufacturing tools (i.e. 5S, Lean concept, Visual management, 6 sigma and other improvement tools applicable).
This role will require someone who has a great focus on quality and can demonstrate a Zero-Defect Mindset where he/she will commit to do things right the first time, every time; creating a work environment where nearly right and good enough are not acceptable.
Minimum Requirements:
Degree in the field of Engineering
7 years of experience in the field of environmental & safety engineering & compliance
Certified Safety Practitioner by the Department of Labor & Employment
Minimum Skills and Knowledge Required:
1 .Experience with writing clear, concise compliance programs that are part of a structured management system.
2. Experience with performing compliance audits and the ability to prioritize findings
3. Experience with creating EHS standard work and procedures
4. Appropriate to the region and job scope, certification coursework in environmental/safety
5. Demonstrates competency and efficient use of excel, word and power point.
