Job Description
As an Engineer in the Materials Science Laboratory group of Western Digital, you will oversee the Spectroscopy analysis group and provide characterization support. You will also support failure analysis and characterization activities for products and processes development and improvement. You are an independent problem solver, and have exceptional communication and organizational skills. You would be directly responsible in managing the Spectroscopy related activities and will also be assigned to lead your team in accomplishing the sub-function team's goals assigned at Western Digital.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conduct Spectroscopy analysis using Raman, EDX and XRF analysis and prepare characterization reports
Develop techniques necessary to solve characterization issues or problems and/or improve team's processes
Support failure analysis and characterization activities for product and process development and improvement
Lead assigned team in accomplishing the team's goals
Train and develop competence within assigned team
Identify and resolve analysis process-related concerns promptly
Responsible for managing resources such as tools and consumables
Applies knowledge/skills to complete a wide-range of tasks
Collaborate with Development and Manufacturing engineers
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Minimum B.S. degree in Materials Science, Physics, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or related field
Must have Chemist License
With analytical experience or knowledge on spectroscopic techniques such as Raman, EDX, XRF or other analytical techniques.
Expertise in failure analysis, technique development and characterization
Advanced skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
SKILLS:
Self-motivated with the ability to effectively multi-task and work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team environment
Ability to make clear, logical decisions based on facts, taking into consideration the big picture, long and short term effects, and exercising sound judgment when handling complaints, confidential and sensitive issues
Demonstrated ability to deliver consistent positive results through influencing, coordinating and managing the efforts of others
Must work well with diverse teams to solve complex problems
