Fair Use Media, Inc. (FUM) is a development stage global news agency (established in 2020) that plans to gather and generate fact-based anchored video, text and audio news reports from newsworthy events around the world. FUM plans to distribute its continuously updated library to major channels such as Facebook and Instagram as well as news publishers, news aggregators, web portals and distributors worldwide. FUM plans to cover the basic elements of any newsworthy event: who, what, when and where. Each newsworthy event will be transformed into a self-contained news report in three formats: Anchored Video, Text and an Audio File. We plan on our news reports not containing any analysis or opinion. FUM plans on using advanced Distributed Ledger Technology or blockchain to prevent Deep Fakes in our News ecosystem. Deep Fakes have recently risen to a heightened level of concern for a majority of consumers, a concern which we believe will be solved by our news platform worldwide.
Required Qualifications
Ten years' experience in a major recognized newsroom.
Fluent in the English language
Familiar with the Fair Use Doctrine and how it's related to pure digital online news gathering.
Overview: The Managing Editor is responsible for overseeing all aspects of Fair Use Media news copy editing, video editing, channel and promotions team and assignment, as well as refining workflow, and working with the parent company and other newsroom staff.
While the Managing Editor oversees the copy and assignment news staff, the managing editor will be the immediate supervisor of video editing staff and will generally manage the video department. The news copy editing, and assignment editor should work with the managing video editor on hiring and disciplinary issues with the video staff, as well as integrating the video staff into the daily workflow with writers, assignment editors and anchors.
Key Areas of Responsibility:
Works with anchors, writers, assignment editors and managing video editor to form a consistent, factually accurate, relevant and complete daily global news coverage that fits the Fair Use Media brand.
Leads training sessions in topics relevant to writers and assignment editors. Topics should include subjects like headline and story writing, how to write for our format, appropriate tone, how to find good news events/use good sources, etc.
Serves as the final quality control arbiter of the writers, copywriters and video editors.
Monitors various Fair Use Media channels for quality control.
Directly supervises the newsroom operations to ensure that all important news events are covered each day (note: this involves making sure the right mix of topics and news events is available for each posting window, that no major news events are missed, and that trending news reports are gathered and assembled in a timely manner).
Reports to senior management on newsroom progress. Attends management meetings and works with management team to develop or refine new workflow processes
Assists parent company senior management in the employee review process.
Works to resolve newsroom conflicts.
Periodically meets with the channel team to stay on the same page about distribution.
Monthly Salary Range ₱90,000 up to ₱200,000
