Continuity Developmental Editors work with series editors, volume editors, and chapter authors who are highly respected and very busy physician, veterinary, dental, nursing practitioners. The Continuity Developmental Editor guides these authors to write and deliver volume review articles and ensure completeness (Level 2) and adherence to specifications. The main task of the Continuity Developmental Editor is to manage and develop assigned review volumes from pre-production manuscript stage through final production stages to ensure on-time publication of volumes.
Tasks include:
Welcoming all new volume editors and every lead chapter author with letters, guidelines, and directions
Initiating EMSS site setup requests and checking newly created sites for accuracy
Answering author and editor queries
Sending reminders about deadlines
Following up on outstanding manuscripts with authors and editors
Engaging in email and sometimes phone conversations with authors and editors
Upon receipt of manuscript, reviewing for completeness and matching specifications, and addressing issues that arise (Level 2)
Creating and submitting permissions log and answering permission queries (Level 2)
Monitoring production progress and mitigating issues that arise post-transmittal
Managing vendors by answering queries and addressing problems (Level 2)
Compiling front matter manuscript and reviewing front matter proof according to a checklist (Level 2)
This person is responsible for a high number of volumes across several series, and he or she must be able to manage a large volume of work on an expedited schedule. He or she must have strong organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills; have a flexible and creative approach to problem solving; be attentive to detail; have the ability to foresee and avert problems; and have excellent collaborative skills. Note that each Continuity DE (Level 2) will be responsible for producing content that generates in excess of $3,000,000 of revenue per year for the Clinical Solutions market-facing unit. This revenue is phased to specific months and there is no flexibility in delivery.
The ideal candidate will have proficiency in managing authors and interacting with them in a professional way, both in email and phone communications; experience in managing multiple, high-priority projects simultaneously and meeting deadlines; familiarity with acceptable formats for digital text and art; facility with Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Photoshop (Level 2); and a familiarity with electronic manuscript submission systems would be a plus.
