Monitoring system performance and identifying problems that arise.
Responding in a timely manner to user-reported errors.
Protecting the database against threats or unauthorized access.
Ensuring that the database is adequately backed up and able to be recovered in the event of memory loss.
Reporting on metrics regarding usage and performance.
Suggesting changes and improvements for database maintenance or protection.
Regularly liaising with IT project managers and database programmers.
Designing databases with both front-end and back-end users in mind.
At least 5 years database administration experience in a complex enterprise environment
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Engineering, or related disciplines
Industry certifications in Microsoft SQL Server Database Administration
Experience administering contemporary database systems - Microsoft SQL Server, Postgres, MongoDB
Database and Server performance monitoring, tuning and capacity planning
Solid understanding of backup and restore processes for databases
Amazon RDS experience
Windows Server and Linux Systems management in a business critical, enterprise environment
At least 2 years' experience in management of complex enterprise applications and services within an AWS public cloud environment
Experience working with a micro services, containerised and web-based application environment
Contemporary DevOps Tools & Practices - AWS Cloud Formation, AWS CDK
Experience with continuous deployment tools - Jenkins and BitBucket
Experience in working closely with software development teams to support the automation of deployment processes
Excellent Scripting Ability - Python, Bash, Powershell
Understanding of TCP/IP networks
Systems & Network security - server hardening, endpoint security, vulnerability management, risk management
Proactive approach to systems management and support
Excellent technical problem-solving skills
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Attention to detail
