Our client, Singapore based Hyperscale facility service provider who believes strongly in taking responsibility and ownership for the DC facilities and systems they operate and maintain. They are looking to build the largest hyperscale facility in Philippines and it will be fully powered by renewable energy in the form of wind and geothermal power.
They are looking to hire an experience Data Center Facilities Manager to manage the 72MW data center campus in the Philippines that runs 24/7. As part of a highly functioning team to operate and maintain our data centers in a highly cost effective, efficient manner. The Data Center operations team, operates one of the most sophisticated electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and cooling systems in the region.
The Role:
The Data Center Facilities Manager will be responsible for the over health and uptime and maintenance of data center. This entails all related infrastructure, systems, security, capacity planning, any move, adds and changes (MACs), customer liaison, etc. The role holder will also provide leadership to employees to ensure the data center operates at maximum efficiency and capacity. Day-to-day requirements will involve a solid knowledge of computer network systems, electrical systems, cooling/mechanical systems and monitoring of all the respective systems with the ability to detect, prevent, and/or remedy potential issues within the supporting infrastructure. The data center facilities manager will be required to diagnose issues, assess performance, and implement strategies to move a data center toward peak performance.
This could involve on the spot problem solving and reacting to issues as they arise, as well as a forward planning and leadership to implement workable changes and improvements. Analytic skills will be useful, as well as management and communication with their team of employees. You will be required to have customer facing skills and an intimate knowledge of monitoring and tracking system.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Manage and lead data center operation 24/7 activities with Facilities Team while working in collaboration with Network Operations, Engineering and various other internal and external customers to achieve agreed Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Establishes key KPI, SLA, SOP, EOP, MOP and Measurement related to performance, capacity, availability, continuity, and security to demonstrate area health and assure 100% uptime to customers.
Oversees all critical electrical and mechanical infrastructure such as UPS systems, generators, fire suppression systems, DC power systems, and HVAC systems in order to achieve 100% availability and obtain maximum effectiveness & efficiency (safety, cost, equipment longevity, and reliability).
Ensures that data centers comply with all local, state, and federal health and safety requirements.
Manages and leads vendor relationship to maintain day to day operations and strategic goals for Data Center Operations SLA's and deliverables. Oversees all vendor's contracts, streamlining services required and optimizing overall costs.
Perform capacity planning and budget forecasting. Review and manage budget implementation as well as proactively look for cost effectiveness program and improvement on overall data center operation, by engaging support from all operation and other department stake holder teams and drive them from conception to completion.
- Works with Sales, Service Delivery and Customers to provide successful build implementations within specified timelines and capability of the data center and resources.
- Participates in all Change Management processes including risk assessment and procedural development and review.
- Works closely with the Engineering team in problem resolution and trending.
- Manages raised-floor capacity, power and cooling in data center, maximizing revenue space for installed products.
Essential Duties
Managing operations and maintenance of all data center infrastructure equipment (critical and non-critical)
Managing facilities training program and overall staff development.
Review and approve MOP of high severity activity within the data center.
Schedule and supervise the performance of both routine maintenance and emergency service on critical equipment and systems,
Management of critical infrastructure improvement projects.
Development and management of facilities budget for maintenance, repairs, capital and general operating costs; bottom-up development of yearly budgets.
Responsibility and oversight for customer on-boarding and off-boarding, implementations, including review and approval of sales proposed Service Level Agreements and Contract changes.
Manage local facilities team
Manage all facilities documentation (planning, development, reports and implementation)
Negotiation and approval of vendor contracts/agreements
On-call 24x7 for incident management and data center emergency response.
Responsible for site safety and environmental compliance.
Create weekly and monthly performance report.
Review and approve Critical Incident Report including root cause analysis, preventive and improvement plan.
Personal Skills
10 years of data center facilities experience in mission critical environments with 3 years in a supervisory/management role.
Customer service experience is preferred
Excellent IT/PC Skills
Written / Oral Communication (English)
Minimum Education
Graduation from a bachelor's degree in a mechanical/electrical trade or equivalent experience
Preferred Knowledge
- Must have the ability to make solid business decisions in a dynamic environment.
- Must have the ability to portray confidence in client-facing situations.
- Excellent consultative and communication skills (verbal & written) with the ability to work effectively with internal and external clients, vendors and consultants.
- Good knowledge of DCIM, BMS, EMS monitoring and control systems
- Good knowledge of ITSM, and Case/Ticket management systems
- Good knowledge of power systems (UPS', RPPs, PDUs) cooling systems (HVACs, air flow dynamics)
- Good knowledge of pumps, compressors, boilers, chillers, facility HVAC systems is necessary
- Good knowledge of UPS systems and associated switch gear
- Good knowledge of standby generator systems and associated switch gear
- Good knowledge of sprinkler systems/fire alarms systems testing, building management systems.
- PC Skills - working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Power Point and Google Apps.
- Good to intermediate knowledge of routers, switches, firewalls, and servers
- Basic knowledge of L1/L2/L3 multilayer Ethernet switching environments & associated protocols
- Self-motivated -with initiative with new and fresh ideas.
- Strong management and leadership skills.
