A. General Clinic Responsibilities 1. In the absence of the physician, the nurse organizes and administers an occupational health service program integrating both occupational workplace health related activities in accordance or in support of the activities made by the occupational health physician of the plant. 2. Provides nursing care to the ill and the injured.
3. Participates in health maintenance examination. If the physician is not available, performs work activities which are within the scope allowed by the nursing profession, and if more extensive examinations are needed, performs necessary referrals to the physician. 4. Participates in the maintenance of occupational health and safety by giving suggestions for the improvement of a client's working condition, which may have an effect on the health and well being of the client.
5. Maintains records and reporting systems, and if a physician is not available, prepares and submits a periodic medical report using standard forms and format directed by CHSI. 6. Assess the work environment for actual or potential health threats and safety problems. 7. Maintains awareness of technological and professional development in the field of occupational health and safety.
B. Occupational Health Care 1. Assess effects of the workplace conditions and working environment on the physical, mental and social well-being of the individual workers and group of workers. This includes but is not limited to:
a. Participation in medical management of an employee illness with direct supervision of the medical practitioner b. Assist the physician in investigating occupational illnesses attributable to workplace hazards. c. Participates in workplace hazard surveys.
Page 2 of 3 2. Actively participate in improving workplace health conditions: Develop and implements health promotion and disease prevention programs in accordance to CHSI's goals and its commitment to keep its clients well and healthy.
a. Assist the physician in investigating occupational illnesses attributable to workplace health hazards b. Participates in workplace health hazard surveys c. Provides health education to employees on how to detect and prevent risks to occupational diseases.
d. Provision of supporting statistical data and information on incidence and prevalence of occupational or work related illnesses consulted in the clinic. 3. Attendance/participation in activities directed by the immediate superior. Represents CHSI in meetings of the Health and Safety Committee of the client company.
C. Direct Nursing Care 1. Performs monitoring of vital signs during consultations (BP, Pulse Rate, Temperature, Weight)
2. Provides nursing assessment for all consulted illnesses and injuries; referring to the physician as appropriate. 3. Coordinates medical referrals of employees to designated HMO accredited clinics and physicians. 4. Coordinates approvals of HMO diagnostic request forms for laboratory tests and procedures ordered by occupational physicians and specialists.
5. Handles issuance of requested medicines to employees. 6. Dispenses medicines to employees. (For plant-based clinics)
7. Administer injectable medications only as prescribed, instructed or directed by the physician. 8. Accompanies clients requiring transport to an emergency facility regardless of the severity of a medical/surgical condition. 9. Provides client directed preventive health services by giving immunizations; assists in conducting fitness-to-work evaluations; health surveillance and monitoring, as well as other health services which may be required.
Page 3 of 3 10. Participates in the completion of a client's Annual Physical Exam (APE) of through: a. Coordination of the Annual Physical Exam schedule
b. Preparation and accomplishment of the Annual Physical Exam form by taking the patient's vital signs, visual acuity, height, weight, and other information vital for initial assessment. c. Performs ECG and Ishihara test if necessary and included in their APE package. d. Encourages employees to submit specimen as required for examination.
e. Collates all diagnostic test results and refers accordingly to physicians for proper evaluation and encoding of APE results. f. Recalls employees with abnormal APE, and other medical diagnostic findings. g. Validates medicines prescribed by occupational physicians of specialists if nonformulary or within the approved guidelines of the company.
11. Calibrate, maintain and ensure adequacy and availability of clinic facilities, materials, or supplies. 12. Monitor and account for the availability of clinic medicines and supplies; submits periodic stock status/ inventory reports; and request to the HR in charge for procurement. 13. Uses the CHSI Medical Information System (CMIS) for patient registration to physicians; recording of patient vital signs, vaccination history, and outside diagnostic information.
