Primary Purpose:
The Cloud Operations Engineer role supports the ServiceNow Discovery and ServiceNow CMDB. Ensures all Configuration Items (CI) in scope are recorded in Configuration Management Database/Configuration Management System (CMDB/CMS) with correct attributes. Maintains accountability for any changes to CI records. Addresses all data quality issues impacting CMDB. Performs regular audits to ensure completeness and accuracy of CMDB.
Secondary duties include participating in continuous improvement activities, as requested by the Manager ITSM or Senior Manager Enterprise Tools. Experience with ITSM best practices is desired.
The position is not customer-facing.
Major Functions/Responsibility:
Assist in developing and maintaining configuration management data element strategies and roadmaps.
Managing the day-to-day activities of the process.
Performing operational activities as defined by CM policies and procedures.
Fulfilling CM service requests as assigned.
Mentoring the organization on CM services, concepts, policies, and procedures.
Tracking compliance to policies and procedures and resolving or escalating any compliance issues.
Facilitating configuration management audits.
Maintain accuracy of the Configuration Management Database (CMDB), assist in improving quality of data.
Reviewing any new requirements, use cases, user stories, etc. to support new or improving CMS functionality.
Identifying service improvement opportunities.
Collecting and reporting on metrics as required.
Facilitate Configuration Item review and audits to ensure accuracy and completeness of configuration items maintained within the CMDB (both discoverable and undiscoverable).
Work with system and network teams to resolve issues with discovery of devices.
Required Education, Experience, and Specific Job-Related Skills Education Requirement:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Business Information Systems, or a similar field, or equivalent work experience required.
Experience Requirement: 2-5 years of professional experience
Demonstrated experience in managing Configuration Management process lifecycle.
Experience using an agentless automated discovery tool (such as ServiceNow Discovery).
Great communicator - both verbally and written, and with senior leadership and partners.
Ability to multi-task and work well in a fast-paced environment - and to meet deadlines throughout it all.
Experience using the ServiceNow platform (or experience with another ITSM tool and understanding of ITSM concepts)
Independent and able to work with little supervision.
Experience with ITIL best-practices.
Ability to work well within a team to learn and share knowledge.
Experience Preferred:
ITIL certified (v3 or v4)
Proficient with the ServiceNow platform.
ServiceNow certifications such as certified admin, discovery implementation.
Infrastructure knowledge - having an understanding of things like network topology and telecommunications architecture .
Experience with AWS.
The ability to program or extend discovery to include custom patterns.
