JOB OVERVIEW
In this role, you will be responsible for building and automating high-performing infrastructure solutions on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft cloud platforms, solving our clients' business problems with repeatable, scalable automation. You will work with client stakeholders, project managers, solution architects and practice leads to deliver end to end automated solutions on Azure. You will be responsible for providing hands-on technical expertise in Cloud Infrastructure and performing cloud migrations. As an experienced Subject Matter Expert (SME) in cloud and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools, you will be heavily involved in the automation of infrastructure solutions, assuming responsibility for the following deliverables:
Build cloud infrastructure in Microsoft Azure (Compute, Network, Storage; IaaS, PaaS, other services)
Develop automation code that replaces manual work activity to request, deploy, and support cloud workloads
Work on creating atomic IaC pipelines that promote automation
Developing and amending templates in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) deployments to ensure requests meet application requirements
Handover of developed services/products to operations functions
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Consulting with clients; to understand their needs for cloud automation, help select the right tools and solutions, suggest environment strategy, influence decisions, and advise the Project Management team of the recommended approach to deliver outcomes that are in the clients' best interests.
Developing solutions; deliver automation standards and code for infrastructure; writing technical specifications, automation routines; performing hands-on cloud deployments, assessments, cost optimisation, security baseline assessments and migrations in accordance with the customers business and technical requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS
Infrastructure engineering experience of around 6+ years, cloud experience of 3+ years, cloud engineering experience of 2+ years - Must have
Microsoft certifications (Azure Solutions Architect Expert / DevOps Engineer Expert / Azure Security Engineer Associate/ Azure Administrator Associate) - Must have
ITIL certifications or working knowledge - Nice to have
Facilitation of client design workshops focusing on cloud migration (IaaS, PaaS, SaaS), cloud transformation, cloud native app architecture and design - Must have
Experience implementing Microsoft Cloud technologies, including large and complex Azure migrations and Azure based infrastructure design and build - Must have
Experience delivering infrastructure engineering for large scale, enterprise level IT projects, end to end - Must have
A strong track record in delivering quality outcomes with demonstrated project success - Must have
Proven experience working with Infrastructure as Code tools and DevOps pipelines - Must have
Expert proficiency in Microsoft Azure transformations:
Azure migration projects - IaaS (must), PaaS (must), containers (nice to have)
Identity platforms - Active Directory (must), Azure Active Directory (must), associated third party identity providers (nice to have)
Azure networking and connectivity advanced understanding (must)
Azure services portfolio - advanced level understanding and service selection based on client business needs (must)
Azure PaaS application architecture spanning Web, Serverless, Functions (must)
Infrastructure as Code - must have one or more of the following to deploy Azure resources and environments. (must)
ARM Templates
Bicep
Terraform
Pulumi
DevOps tools and pipelines to deploy IaC to Azure - Azure DevOps or GitHub or equivalent (must)
Exposure to IaC authoring IDEs, tools and plugins (must)
Set up and deliver application CI / CD to - Azure DevOps or GitHub or equivalent (nice to have)
Security scanning setup and configuration for infrastructure as code (nice to have)
Azure data persistence options - well-rounded understanding of various first and third party databases (relational, NoSQL, analytical) options in Azure and pros / cons of each (nice to have)
Azure cloud native application architecture spanning PaaS, web and container services (nice to have)
Virtual desktop infrastructure with WVD - design, build, rollout. (nice to have)
Expert proficiency in Microsoft Azure strategy:
Azure assessment of client VMware / Hyper-V environments (on-prem or private cloud) - with tools such as Azure Migrate, rvtools, Movere, etc. (must)
Multi-cloud assessment and strategy - across Azure, AWS and GCP (nice to have, we don't need in-depth AWS or GCP experience)
Great understanding and articulation of Microsoft Azure Well-Architected Framework (nice to have)
Great understanding and articulation of Cloud Adoption Framework for Microsoft Azure (nice to have)
Understanding of Microsoft Azure landing zones, including enterprise-scale landing zones and ability to architect and build them using automation (nice to have)
Expert proficiency in Microsoft Azure optimisation:
Ability to assess client Azure tenancies against Microsoft Azure WellArchitected Framework principles (nice to have)
Ability to use first and third-party tools to quickly benchmark cost, security, governance, operations, compliance on client Azure estates (nice to have)
Ability to use Azure services such as Azure resource graph, Azure advisor, Azure cost explorer, Azure Security Center, etc. (nice to have)
