Role Overview and Objectives
The Assistant Accountant will monitor, prepare and maintain financial information, and reporting in accordance with best practice. The Assistant Accountant is responsible for supporting senior accountants and members of the shared service team with accounting duties including monitoring transactions, resolving queries, and assisting with analysis.
Responsibilities:
The Assistant Accountant is responsible for (but not limited to):
The Cash Assistant Accountant is responsible for the cash and bank transactional processes of the various New Zealand and Australian companies within the Datacom group. The role will be primarily focused on performing bank reconciliations and maintaining accurate financial reports, records, and general ledgers in a timely manner and in accordance with legislation and Datacom policy.
Record-2-Report activities.
Assisting in the generation of general ledger transactions and subsequent related adjustments.
Supporting monthly activities including balance sheet reconciliations.
Supporting the preparation of financial analysis and reports from a profit and loss and balance sheet perspective.
Supporting the analysis and review of financial information of discrepancies and variances.
Contributing ideas towards the development of new or amended accounting systems, programs, and procedures including initiating any actions to reduce write-offs and improve efficiencies.
Assisting audit preparations and year-end activities through the provision of information.
Supporting the preparation of accounting records and financial reports as per Datacom standards.
Ensuring all accounting tasks are completed within the set timeframe and any issues addressed as they arise.
Performing other accounting duties and supporting the broader team as required or assigned.
Supporting the design and implementation of effective and appropriate financial controls.
Requirements
Knowledge:
Basic knowledge of general accounting systems, processes, and practices
Foundational technical accounting knowledge
Working knowledge of Oracle or a similar-sized ERP system
Experience
1-3 years of general accounting or audit experience
Experience working with different stakeholders.
Previous involvement in process improvement initiatives
Experience working either within Datacom or for a similar-sized organization.
Skills
Background in the generation of general ledger transactions
Background in cash and bank transactional, and experience in Bank reconciliations
Ability to create and maintain financial analysis and reports from a profit and loss and balance sheet.
Ability to deliver accurate and timely financial outputs.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with people at any level in the organization.
Excellent organizational skills
Interest in process improvement and simplification
Strong system skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and enterprise resource planning software (ERP).
Performance orientated and responsive.
Excellent Microsoft Excel Skills and Pivot table (MUST)
