Position SummaryThe Accountant is responsible for supporting an Australia-based finance team by managing daily accounting operations, reconciliations, vendor and customer management, and basic compliance tasks. This role requires strong Australian accounting experience, excellent English communication skills, and the confidence to handle both routine bookkeeping and higher-level accounting tasks with minimal supervision.The Accountant will work remotely and collaborate closely with the finance and operations teams to ensure accurate financial data, proactive issue resolution, and smooth transaction flow within Xero and other internal systems.Job DetailsWork Setup: Work-from-home (may need to go on-site during client visits)Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM-5:30 PM (Perth or Manila time), with some flexibilityHolidays: Philippine Holidays (final list to be reviewed by clientResponsibilitiesCore Accounting & Bookkeeping
Handle daily bookkeeping and accounting functions using Xero.
Process vendor bills, customer invoices, daily transactions, and general ledger postings.
Perform reconciliations for bank, credit card, and GL accounts accurately and on schedule.
Maintain accurate financial records across Xero and related systems.
Australian Tax & Compliance Support
Apply and validate correct GST treatment for bills and invoices.
Assist in preparing BAS and activity statements (experience preferred but not mandatory).
Ensure coding accuracy to support external accountants responsible for formal tax lodgments.
Month-End Closing & Reporting
Support month-end activities including journals, accruals, balance sheet reconciliations, and variance checks.
Assist in preparing internal reports and documentation required by the finance team.
Operational & Project Support
Manage the shared accounts inbox and communicate professionally with vendors, customers, and internal stakeholders.
Validate and cross-check operational data to ensure accuracy before financial entry.
Work on project-based tasks such as compiling information for the UK VAT return (no prior UK tax experience needed).
Provide ad hoc support to the finance team as required.
Process Ownership & Continuous Improvement
Follow established workflows and financial controls diligently.
Identify discrepancies, escalate issues proactively, and provide recommendations.
Push back confidently when data or coding appears incorrect and resolve issues with the operations team.
Qualifications
At least 5 years of accounting experience, with minimum 3 years of direct Australian accounting from private companies.
Proficiency in Xero (mandatory).
Strong understanding of GST, basic BAS preparation, and general Australian bookkeeping workflows.
Excellent English communication skills-written and verbal.
Ability to work independently, proactively solve problems, and manage both routine and complex tasks.
Strong Excel skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Proactive and confident in raising accounting concerns or discrepancies.
Comfortable doing both senior-level accounting judgment and daily reconciliations/transaction processing.
Able to handle high-volume transactions and non-standard cases requiring investigation.
Strong sense of ownership, initiative, and accountability.
High attention to detail and strong analytical thinking.
Nice to Have
Experience with MS Dynamics or other ERP systems.
Exposure to UK VAT processes (not required but an advantage).
