Job Description
The Reinsurance Accountant will assume responsibility all aspects of accounting for assigned reinsurance contracts.
Verification of underwriting data for quota share and/or excess of loss contracts
Maintain the accuracy of premium information on excess of loss contracts including endorsements, premium adjustments, and cash allocations
Maintain all aspects of quota share programs including bordereau reporting and posting, claims payments and cash allocation
Monitor, and maintain within 90-day threshold, aging of accounts receivable
Liaise with brokers, claims department and underwriting department regarding queries, outstanding receivables, and premium adjustments
Complete underwriting system monthly close including testing of system accuracy for hand off to financial reporting team (ARL and Somers
Additional projects and ad hoc duties as required
Work with financial reporting team to investigate/ explain movements for the quarterly reserve call with senior management
Attend QCR meetings and follow up investigation and liaising with various teams to report findings to UW in a timely manner for the quarterly closes
Participate in systems enhancements including defining scope, developing and executing test plan
Additional projects and ad hoc duties as required
Qualifications
A professional accounting qualification (CA, CPA, ACA) is required with preference given to candidates with experience in public accounting
A minimum of five years of professional experience, some of which must have been spent with a reinsurance company
Previous experience reading and interpreting reinsurance terms and contracts. Technical knowledge of reserving and settlement practices are an asset
Understanding of accounting for quota share and excess of loss contracts and must have experience with underwriting systems
Financial reporting experience within a SOX and SEC regulated environment preferred
Strong organizational and time management skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with individuals at all levels and in all areas of the organization across various time zones
A strong work ethic and the ability to take initiative and work without supervision, as well as the ability to handle confidential information with absolute discretion
Exceptional analytical, documentation and presentation skills
Strong computer skills, in particular, proficiency in Microsoft Office suite of applications, primarily Excel

Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
