Duties and Responsibilities:
The Second Engineer is responsible on board to the Master and is directly responsible to the Chief Engineer for the execution of his duties. The Second Engineer is the supervising officer of the Engineering department and will be responsible to the Chief Engineer for the observance of safe operational procedures and discipline within the Engineering Department. In the absence of the Chief Engineer, he is to act as his deputy.
The Second Engineer is responsible for:
• Ensuring that the Chief Engineer's instructions are carried out by the efficient organization of the Engine Room staff and will direct junior Engineers accordingly.
• Organizing the Engineering department ratings respective duties and hours of work in accordance with the Crew Agreement and conditions of service. He shall direct, in accordance with the Chief Engineer's instructions, all maintenance work performed by engineering personnel (including maintenance contractors). He is to maintain close liaison with the Chief Officer on the day to day workings of the Deck department.
• Managing all identified risk to ship, personnel and environment and establish appropriate safeguards.
• Consulting with the officer he is relieving, upon joining, discussing the condition of the machinery, plant and equipment and after making an examination will report any defects to the Chief Engineer.
Rotation and Trading Area:
Rotation: 4 weeks on and 4 weeks off
Trading area: Spain to Morocco.
Requirements:
Fluent in English.
Valid Passport.
STCW Certificates
