The selected candidate will update, maintain or create documentation in US English for a highly sophisticated/technical audience in the semiconductor industry. He/she will author, edit, and proof technical documents such as System Manuals, User Guides and other technical documentation. He/she will ensure that documents conform to program standards and will work with engineering teams to define the content of the documents. He/she will have primary responsibility for authorship on some documents, and be the editor on others. The selected individual will gather requirements from users/stakeholders and prepare user and program documentation. He/she work closely with technical staff and will be responsible for managing multiple documentation assignments simultaneously.
Primary Roles and Responsibilities
The selected candidate will oversee the collection and organization of information, and the preparation, editing, and revision of numerous documents required for customer support, to include user manuals, training materials, installation guides, and other reports and deliverables. He/she will work in concert with multiple technical professions including software developers, system engineers, test engineers, HDL engineers, hardware engineers and release engineers in capturing data and media to support technical documentation generation. Proofreading, rewriting as necessary, or writing new copy where appropriate. The individual will edit functional descriptions, system specifications, user manuals, special reports, and other customer deliverables and documents. The technical writer will ensure all content adheres to the brand's voice and standards while determining the suitability of material for the target audience. The candidate will be expected to review copy for consistency as well as identify design issues, such as the proper use of fonts and logos, while operating in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. Organize and prioritize work activities to handle multiple and competing projects simultaneously. The editor will work closely with internal, global partners and must have excellent communication skills and the ability to provide explicit and constructive feedback in a professional and positive manner.
Required Education, Experience, & Skills
At least 2 years of technical writing experience preparing documents, reports, responses, and briefings targeted to a wide range of audiences
Experience effectively formatting and editing technical publications and proposals, including writing, editing, and illustrating using the MS Office Suite and/or on-line (wiki)
Experience working with system engineers, software engineers, and program management to translate technical information into clear, concise documentation to include user manuals
Must be able to plan and prioritize personal tasking and be able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Must be an independent thinker, capable of performing high quality work, both independently and with a team, in a fast-moving environment
Preferred Education, Experience, & Skills
Bachelor's or Master's Degree in a Writing (English, communications, or marketing), or related discipline.
Recent experience on a system/software development program compiling, editing, and publishing documentation
Strong aptitude and desire to read and learn about technical topics.
Prior experience working in corporate setting within technical team preferred.
