Nature of Work:
Setup equipment and perform sanding, polishing, and buffing operations to obtain "grain" lustre, colour, and finish on natural and/or plated parts in accordance with specifications.
Setup and operate tanks containing acids and cleaning solutions to chemically clean and treat parts in accordance with prescribed specifications.
May also include the blasting of parts in either glass bead or shot blasting equipment.
Typical tools and equipment involved include, but are not limited to buffing equipment, belt sanders, drills and presses and other similar types of equipment and straightening fixtures or presses to produce parts in accordance with work orders, specifications, or procedures.
Level of Work
Apply and manipulate work to abrasive and polishing wheels varying pressure and position to grind, polish, buff, and glaze surfaces and contours to bring out the required finish.
Select and secure the proper wheels, felts, and sanding belts on the selected equipment, dress and balance wheels, select and apply the proper compounds, etc. to obtain the proper finish required.
Setup, operate, and maintain anodize, chemical-film and bright anodize process lines.
Determine proper racks required for anodized parts to include alloy groupings and proper placement of loaded racks
Perform pre-inspection requirements on finished work
Work with a minimum of supervision and direction
Instruct other team members in the setup, operation, safety, and other matters pertinent to metal treating
Report all operating and other unusual conditions to the immediate supervisor or other authorities
Contact the appropriate personnel to discuss and recommend changes in finishes and operations to overcome manufacturing difficulties, ascertain disposition of rejected parts, and other similar matters related to the job
Ensure conformance to design, written procedures, and quality specifications
Move materials, tools, fixtures, and equipment as required
Maintain a clean and safe work area and report all discrepancies to management.
Dispose of scrap and material as instructed to keep accurate part counts
Complete required reports and maintain accurate entries in the computer database
Any other reasonable duties
