Job description
Delivers professional and high standards of patient care in accordance with the Professional Practice.
Admits patients from Emergency Room or from other department.
Recognizes and respect the dignity and confidentiality of all patients irrespective of ethnic origin or religious beliefs.
Perform admitting assessments, review history and develop plan of care. Initiate fetal heart monitor, assist in the performance of vaginal exams, interpret fetal heart tones and determine frequency duration and intensity of contractions.
Monitor progress of laboring mothers, interpret fetal heart monitor and notify physician when appropriate for progress or problems.
Assist mother and labor coach with breathing exercises, pain management techniques and administer pain medication as ordered. Prepare birthing room for delivery using strict sterile technique.
Prepare mothers for elective or emergency Cesarean Section by following policies and procedure of the hospital.
Provide emotional support to mother and coach, obtain proper consents and pre-op diagnostic studies and coordinate smooth transfer to surgery.
Provides medical care and treatment to obstetrical patients under supervision of the nurse and obstetrician, delivers babies, and instructs patients in prenatal and postnatal health practices.
Stays with patient and monitor during labor to reassure patient.
Delivers infant and performs postpartum examinations and treatments to ensure that patient and infant are responding normally.
When deviations from standard are encountered during pregnancy or delivery, administers stipulated emergency measures, and arranges for immediate contact of obstetrician.
Monitoring the fetus during labor.
Helping parents to cope with miscarriage, termination, stillbirth and neonatal death.
Anticipate and recognize deviations from normal infant deliveries and carry out laid down procedures to safeguard the well-being of mothers and babies such as resuscitation of newborns, treatment of hemorrhage and shock, fetal distress, prolapsed cord, and other life threatening conditions.
Assist with the organization and conduct of prenatal classes for expectant parents to help ensure safe pregnancy, childbirth and puerperium.
Assist mothers to initiate infant feeding following delivery.
Assesses care needs and implement and evaluate plans of care which meet the patient's physical and emotional needs.
Carries out comprehensive observations and to implement emergency procedures as necessary.
Maintains effective communications with other members of the health care team.
Administer drugs according to hospital policy and ensure the safe keeping of drugs at all times.
Maintains an up to date knowledge of appropriate clinical practice and to undertake support own continuing professional development.
Reports any incident, complaint or hazard to the Head Nurse or Nurse Supervisor.
Displays professionalism while completing multiple urgent tasks in a timely manner.
Records all care information concisely, accurately and completely, in a timely manner, in the appropriate format and on the appropriate forms.
Attends and supports in-service education or training programs.
Assists Head Nurse in personnel work evaluation.
Performs other related duties as assigned in the absence of the Head Nurse when necessary.
Supports and promotes the programs of Infection Control Committee, Waste Management Committee, Environmental and Safety Committee.
Job Qualification:
With at least six (6) months of work experience
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) Trainings or Seminars on the Maternal & Child Care
Bachelor of Science or Diploma in Midwifery, licensed to practice midwifery
Personal Requirements:
Knowledge of health care and medical procedures, including terminology.
Advanced knowledge on maternal and child care, breastfeeding and other disease conditions concerning women's health.
Possess skills in operating equipment such as defibrillator, glucometer, fetal doppler heart rate monitor, autoclave machine
Interpersonal/human relations skills
Attentiveness to detail
Ability to prioritize duties and delegate responsibilities
Ability to use protective equipment and respond to emergency situations
Ability to exert average physical effort
