POSITION SUMMARY:
The Sr. Manager of Learning and Development will serve as a key member of the Human Resources Talent, Development and Inclusion team, leading the company's learning and development strategy and delivery for our shipboard and private destination-based talent (approximately 70,000+), across our global family of brands.
This role will shape our enterprise-wide shipboard and private destination learning strategy to secure the right focus and alignment across our development priorities, while ensuring the right framework and tools are in place to drive best-in-class delivery and practices.
An advisor to senior leaders and executives across the business, the Sr. Manager of Learning and Development will serve as a strategic advisor to strengthen learning's position as a key enabler in achieving our business priorities.
POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Learning and Development Strategy, Planning and Delivery
Establish the enterprise strategy and direction for learning and development across our shipboard and private destination population, securing the right framework and governance for execution.
Evaluate existing shipboard and private destination learning and development priorities with company strategy, brand strategy, and local needs to make recommendations that would better enable the achievement of brand and enterprise goals.
Regularly assess the learning and development delivery model's effectiveness and make recommendations to evolve our approach and delivery so that it is sustainable at scale and helps to move the respective brand and enterprise development priorities forward.
Ensure the right communication and learning resources are developed, accessible and reinforced for shipboard and private destination leadership, HR managers, and learning consultants to guide the education, motivation and activation of learning for their respective populations (e.g., job aids, playbooks, etc.).
Design and lead the enterprise approach for the assessment of learning and development needs across our shipboard and private destination populations (includes diagnosis, leadership and team development).
Strategic learning architect with the identification, planning and delivery of the right development solution to address key knowledge, skill, and behavior needs in support of shipboard and private destination operations. Needs may be raised by enterprise and/or brand shipboard, private and shoreside leadership.
Setup and drive a systematic approach to measure the results and impact of shipboard and private destination learning and development efforts at an individual, team, and brand level.
Anticipate business challenges and complexities and potential implications across the shipboard and private destination operating model and portfolio of learning efforts, securing a mitigation plan is in place.
Stay abreast of emerging learning and development trends, methodologies, etc. to guide the evolution of related principles and guidance, to drive learning optimization.
Leadership, Supervision and Collaboration
Manages a team of learning and development professionals responsible for the management, planning and delivery of related efforts across our shipboard and private destination talent globally. Includes their performance management and development, delegation and monitoring of assignments, as well as mentoring and coaching to root cause and address obstacles that arise.
Oversight of regional changes and management of L&D Consultants across our fleet.
Learning advisor and partner to enterprise-wide leadership, shoreside business and HR leadership, as well as to shipboard and private destination leaders to guide their focus and engagement in development of their teams.
Partner with People Analytics to establish the appropriate framework to measure effectiveness and impact of training programs to enable periodic updates and reporting (e.g., senior leadership, Board of Directors, ESG, 10K).
Manage enterprise-wide shipboard and private destination learning integration, ensuring seamless integration with existing business processes and routines.
Day-to-day management of internal and external resources (e.g., contractors) with program strategy alignment, development and execution, ensuring deliverable achievement.
Anticipates and balances the needs of multiple stakeholders, considering senior leadership/executive point of view with company objectives.
Strategic partner with other HR Centers of Excellence (CoEs) with the development and planning of learning solutions to strengthen shipboard and private destination people capability.
Financial Responsibilities
Manage the shipboard and private destination learning and development budget for related initiatives, securing the appropriate funding for learning materials, L&D staff travel, team development and other funding for the successful delivery of related services.
Oversee and consult with the sign on/sign off movement of our shipboard and private destination L&D Consultants to ensure alignment with fleet capacity needs and travel policy. Ensures role clarity of L&D Consultant movement responsibilities with that of HR Global Operations (e.g., CAM).
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor's degree in industrial-organizational psychology, human resources, business or other related field; post graduate degree a plus.
Substantial work experience as a talent development professional specializing in leading learning and development strategy and related efforts across a global landscape within the hospitality industry, cruise line and/or corporate organization. Cruise ship experience highly preferred.
Strong business acumen of shipboard and private destination operating model, including key factors driving its effectiveness.
Experience supervising and directing the work of others (internal/external) to achieve specific results within limited timeframes.
Ability to influence with limited authority, leveraging strong consultation and facilitation skills.
Ability to work under tight timeframes; plan, prioritize and carry out multiple, detailed tasks with limited supervision.
Demonstrated ability to build relationships with senior leaders/executives, across a multi-dimensional matrix and global environment.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
Knowledge and understanding of learning and development strategy, design principles, methodology, process and tools, including their benefits and risks.
Strong customer orientation and ability to work reciprocally with team members, across functions and in a multi-cultural, diverse environment.
Makes sense of complex, high quantity, sensitive and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems, separating root causes from symptoms.
Operates effectively, even when things are not certain, or the way forward is not clear. Seeks to resolve ambiguity and make progress, responding with appropriate composure and effectiveness.
Experience with formulating strategic themes from collected data-observational, survey, etc.-for senior leader/executive reporting and awareness.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, managing multiple projects effectively and performing comfortably in a high velocity, deadline oriented work environment.
Demonstrated ability as a trusted advisor with leaders across levels, with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to identify potential business and people risks, including anticipating points of resistance and developing targeted plans to mitigate or address concerns at the individual, team and organizational level adapting to diverse audiences.
Experience applying adult learning principles and consulting, coaching, mentoring and facilitation techniques required.
Demonstrated proficiency in the utilization of project management software and other tools to effectively manage resource capacity, development and delivery.
Ability to travel 30%.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The environment includes work inside/outside the office, travel to other offices, possibly travel domestic and international, and work in shipboard functions. A high noise level is possible if visiting shipboard or offsite.
