Position Summary:
Responsible for supporting care management quality to ensure that all crewmembers on medical leave and staying within an area where Care Advocates conduct in-person visits are kept in contact with their medical case coordinator and/or manager and any questions the crewmember has about his/her medical benefits and treatment are addressed. Liaises with the crew medical case managers, claims adjusters, shipboard medical personnel, human resources, and other departments within the corporation to ensure the provision of prompt, proper, and adequate medical treatment to crew members on medical leave. Identifies, escalates, and manages service quality concerns. Uses emotional intelligence along with customer service skills to guarantee optimal handling of cases.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Prepares status reports for their respective assigned geographical areas on medical appointment/hospital visits and communications with crew and makes recommendations for continuous quality and process improvement. Analyzes information gathered from visits with crew members and case file reviews to identify areas of opportunity and improve the quality of medical case management. Advises management of observations and recommendations concerning overall case management and issues presented by specific cases.
Establishes and maintains contact with the crewmember, and/or designated family member(s) of affected crew to keep such persons continuously updated / informed of affected crew medical / other status until such time as affected crew is stable or returned safely back home. Acts as an additional resource to provide service and support to crew when issues arise.
Partners with crew medical case management team, with a focus on crew with adverse incidents (e.g. medical emergencies, medical disembarkations, deaths, missing persons and crime victims), long term medical issues, and significant injuries. High degree of focus and management of high risk cases and assists with communications, as necessary.
Counsel crewmembers and their families, as well as local agents and medical providers, to ensure quality crew care.
Maintains current notes of crewmember contact and case activity within the Riskonnect system and other databases for quality assurance.
Conduct in-person visits to medical appointments, hospitals, and other medical facilities to help our crew members on medical leave navigate through the continuum of care and support the well-being and progress of our crew member's treatment plan.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:
Bachelor's degree, in a medical discipline preferred, or equivalent directly related experience required
Minimum of 3 years directly related equivalent experience.
Minimum of 3 years related case management quality control experience and/or training
Claim adjusting or claim management experience preferred
Crisis management training preferred
Customer services training preferred
Verbal and written communications skills to respond to inquiries or complaints from crewmembers, regulatory agencies, members of the business community and shore-side personnel.
Effectively organize and present information to management, public groups, and/or board of directors.
Ability to speak English fluently. Ability to speak and read other languages is a plus.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
Collaborative style in working with co-workers and effectively contributes in a team environment.
