Job Summary
The Senior Tax Accountant is responsible for undertaking all production accounting activities, including preparation, review and analysis of financial statements and taxation requirements and deliver associated quality, professional accounting outcomes. The individual in this role will provide high-level tax and accounting support to the Director/Partner and the entire client base. They will assist the Partner/Director with leading, coaching/mentoring and performance management of the team.
Job Description:
-Assist the Director with implementing new procedures, including development, training, and review
-Provide support to cover practice management/administrative tasks as required
-Complete basic to high-level complexity tax returns and financial accounts
-Complete basic to high-level complexity GST, BAS, and IAS
-Complete all other compliance documents as required
-Assist the Director with attending to client setup and registration requirements
-Assist the Director with attending to internal compliance and client enquiries
-Identifying/notifying the Director of any concerning matters, including but not limited to, discrepancies in tax assessment notices or services provided
-Review ATO correspondence where required, and discuss/raise concerning matters with the Director and ensure matters are addressed in a timely manner
-Ensure timely and accurate management of workflow
-Ensure timely and accurate management of invoicing, including WIP management
-Maintain current knowledge of client lodgment obligations and status across all clients assigned to you and the team, leading the team to ensure accurate recording and maintenance of lodgment program data
-Complete all work in accordance with tax and accounting legislative requirements as well as SCE processes and procedures
-Acquire and maintain knowledge of current legislative requirements and maintain CPD hours
-Provide support to the Director as required
-Actively assess/review processes and procedures discussing all recommendations with the Director
-Take part in projects to improve productivity, quality, risk management and service
-Complete all bookkeeping tasks as required
-other adhoc tasks as deemed necessary
Requirements
Required
-At least 4+ years of experience in the Australian tax accounting industry
-Strong knowledge of basic and advanced accounting and financial principles and practices
-Working knowledge on GST, BAS, and IAS
-Demonstrated experience preparing financial accounts, tax returns and activity statements
-Demonstrated ability to develop and retain effective client relationships
-Proficiency in various accounting software including Handisoft, Handitax Handiledger and other related accounting and business software systems.
-Knowledge of bookkeeping solutions and Microsoft Office i.e. Excel, Outlook
-Well-developed interpersonal skills
-Demonstrated ability to mentor/train accountants
-Demonstrated ability to plan, organise and prioritize
-A strong attention to detail and high levels of initiative
-Strong analytical, problem solving, and interpersonal skills
-Excellent written and verbal English business communication skills
Preferred
-5 + years of experience in the Australian tax accounting industry
-Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Accountant is preferred
-Class, XERO, XERO Tax Software experience
-SMSF Experience
