Job Summary
Responsibilities
1. Guide the team on how to use Agile/Scrum practices
2. Encourage the value of the user (our clients' customers)
3. Guide the team to use self-organization to fill in the intentional gaps left in the Agile/Scrum frameworks
4. Assess the maturity of the team and coach to higher levels of maturity, at a pace that is sustainable and comfortable for both the team and the organization
5. Guide teams to remove their own impediments by finding the right personnel to remove the impediment
6. Build a trusting and safe environment where problems can be raised without fear of blame, retribution, or being judged, with an emphasis of healing and problem solving
7. Facilitate the team's ability to get work done without coercion, assigning, or dictating
8. Facilitate discussion, decision making, and conflict resolution
9. Assist the team to generate internal and external communication (information radiators, visibility, transparency)
10. Support and educate the Product Owner on Agile/Scrum practices to ensure the Product Owner independently leads grooming and maintaining the product backlog
11. Provide appropriate support to the team using a servant leadership style, without allowing the team to become dependent on the Scrum Master role

Qualifications:
Able to study for and pass a First level Scrum Master certification (CSM, PSM I) test
Demonstrated capability of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continuous improvement, empowerment, and increasing transparency
Able to scale the learning curve quickly to adopt usual Agile/Scrum patterns and techniques, including: Burndown calculation, Retrospective formats, Ceremony cadence
Demonstrated passion for creating a positive, inclusive culture that values self-organizing teams and reduces the desire for "command and control" techniques
A distinct dislike for using email as a conversation tool
Other Skills and Experiences (Min)
Bonus Experiences
Experience playing the Scrum Master role for at least one year for a software development team that was diligently applying Scrum principles, practices, and theory
Knowledge and/or experience with widely successful Agile/DevOps techniques: User Stories, TDD, Continuous Integration, Automated Testing, Agile Games, INVEST story criteria
Experience on a team or effort through awful circumstances, whether or not that experience led to "success"
Experience with any kind of Kanban or flow-based work tracking system (JIRA, Assembla, Pivotal, VersionOne/digital.ai, Bugzilla, Asana, etc.)
Experience with digital tools to facilitate multi-location teams, and the risk that one-off conversations have to team cohesion
