A Scientist is responsible for performing routine and specialized physico-chemical or microbiological analysis of raw materials, finished food and beverage products, water, and wastewater as required for acceptance, verification of product parameters, product registration, and monitoring for regulatory compliance; for conducting method validation; for calculating the uncertainty of measurement; for documenting laboratory test methods; and for conducting training related to the field of specialization.
A Scientist has the primary objective of assuring the accuracy of test results generated through use of appropriate, updated, and validated test methods, monitoring and implementation of quality assurance protocols, and generation of reports in conformance tothe organization's documented procedures and applicable management systems.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Technical Roles
Performs analyses as defined in the matrix of the laboratory's testing capabilities.
Conducts technical assistance service (e.g. special tests, audit, training).
Generates and releases test reports to customers.
Handles samples from receiving, preparation, storage, until disposal.
Prepares culture media and/or reagents needed for the analysis.
Performs method development, validation, and/or verification of new test methods.
Safe keeps, updates, and maintains documented information, including technical records and test methods.
Conducts verification of equipment such as weighing devices, pH meters, and temperature enclosures.
Monitors supplies inventory, equipment maintenance and performance, and the laboratory's environmental condition.
Participates in interlaboratory comparison or proficiency testing programs.
Trains new laboratory analyst.
Adheres with safe laboratory practices and good housekeeping measures in performing the function.
Ensures conformance to ISO/IEC 17025 and other mandatory requirements and related systems.
Abide by the company policies and documented procedures.
Does other tasks or function assigned by the Section Manager or the Central Laboratory Group Manager.
Other Roles Relevant to the Laboratory Management System
Equipment Management Team
Responsible for the management, monitoring and ensuring performance of all equipment to deliver optimum capacity of the laboratory without delay in turn around time of analysis due to equipment breakdown and malfunction.
Supplies Management Team
Responsible for the management and provision of the resources needed to ensure the continuous operation of the laboratory, maintains a non-stock out level of supplies.
Records Management Team
Responsible for the management and control of all documented information (policy statements, procedures, specifications, calibration tables, charts, test books, posters, notices, memoranda, softwares, drawings, plans, logbooks, equipment records, IQA records, requisitons, etc.).
Internal Audit Team
Responsible for conduct of complete cycle of internal audit to verify that the laboratory operations continue to comply with the requirements of the management system, ISO/IEC 17025, and other relevant laboratory recognition.
Pollution Control and Safety Team
Responsible for the strict adherence of Central Laboratory to existing standards related to pollution, occupational health and safety. Makes sure that plan, implementation, monitoring and control including documentation are in
Keeps records, inventories hazardous materials and wastes generated, facilitates procurement of safety supplies, and acquires all necessary Safety Data Sheets.
Liaises with the regulatory agencies and serves as guide during inspection.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A graduate of B.S. Microbiology, B.S. Biology (major in Microbiology), or related course.
Preferably, a Registered Microbiologist.
Fresh graduate or with at least one (1) year relevant work experience.
Proficient in oral and written communication.
Computer literate, hardworking, and proactive.
Can work with minimum supervision.
Must be of good moral character.
