Description
The Science Research Specialist II (Software Developer) will work with cross-functional team members in delivering high quality outputs for its engagements. S/he will be involved in the facilitation and implementation of the DOST-CRADLE Project titled, "Unistar Automated Repossessed Motorcycle Assessment System (Unistar ARMAS)", and will also help in the various initiatives of ACCeSs lab. S/he will be closely collaborating with the back-end development team and the front-end team to integrate the server-side logic and machine learning models with the user-facing elements to create a responsive, efficient, and user-friendly interactive web applications and dashboards for the end-users and stakeholders. Ultimately, s/he will support the various initiatives of ACCeSs lab that aims to lead and promote the use of data science, artificial intelligence, and computational models to help industries, government agencies, and other sectors to innovate.
Qualifications
Responsibilities
Education
S/he has an undergraduate or graduate degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Physics or other relevant fields.
Minimum experience
At least 2 years professional software engineering experience, with a strong preference for web development
Proficiency in back-end languages such as Java, Ruby, Python, and C++
Strong knowledge in Python, with working knowledge of at least one Python web framework e.g., Flask, Django or Pyramid; and,
Thorough understanding of software engineering standards and best practices: Unit Testing, DevOps, Git, REST API, etc.
Business Understanding
Understanding of fundamental security principles for web applications
Nice-to-Have Qualifications:
Working knowledge of machine learning, agent-based, and/or transport modeling frameworks. Example: Scikit-Learn, TensorFlow, MatSim, SUMO, etc.
Knowledge of multiple front-end languages and libraries (e.g. HTML/ CSS, JavaScript, XML, jQuery)
Experience developing desktop and mobile applications; and,
Experience in creating databases and pipeline using PostgreSQL, MySQL, Airflow, etc.
Assist in the research and development efforts of ACCeSs@AIM's team implementing the DOST-CRADLE grant project titled, "Unistar Automated Repossessed Motorcycle Assessment System (Unistar ARMAS)". Specific activities include, but are not limited to:
Writing clean, functional code on the front- and back-end
Develop and integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic
Support the design and implementation of responsive web applications and dashboards
Setup data storage and pipeline solutions ensuring security and protection in line with the stakeholder requirements
Collaborate with scientists and other team members of ACCeSs@AIM to achieve the laboratory's project and research goals; and,
Work closely alongside the team's web developer from conception to finishing the product
Perform ad hoc tasks relevant to the position as needed.
