Qualifications:
Licensed Mining Engineer, Geologist or Chemist.
At least 5 years experience in mine safety work or mining operations
Strong technical knowledge in safety concepts such as risk management, incident investigation and management, systems development, behavioural safety, change management hazard recognition, auditing
Certified Safety Practitioner under both Safety and Mining legislations (BOSH, ISO, etc)
Role Purpose:
Assist the site Safety Manager in implementing and maintain the site OHS: Management System; culture; functions and processes. Act as the legislated "Safety Engineer" for the site
Responsibilities:
Responsible for delivering and maintaining safety systems and initiatives across the project site to employees and contractors alike. Supervise the Safety Officer of the section's activities.
Develops OHS Training programs for roll-out, manage the site OHS orientation and OHS training programs.
Coordinates with Area Owner of planned activities providing safety inputs.
Manages the site fire truck, firefighting procedures, systems, equipment and training
Trains fire crews.
Conducts emergency fire and rescue drills on ERT Members.
Conducts and participate in the site safety auditing functions such as MGB Audit, DOLE Audit, , SHE Audit, BFP Annual Inspection, Insurance and Risk Engineering; Government;
Assists Area Owner in the development of Task Analyses, Process Adjustments, permits and other safety requirements;
Provides technical expertise across a wide range of safety issues and procedures.
Manage the Work Environment Monitoring program (i.e. Dust & Noise etc) WEM.
Liaises with government monitoring agencies. Report results to management team, follow up on results.
Liaises with local government officials and ensure legal OHS requirements, permits and licenses are maintained.
Prepares various reports to external bodies such as monthly Safety Report to the Mines Geosciences Bureau (MGB)-DENR, and others in compliance to government regulations.
Facilitates and participates in medium level incident investigations.
Prepares Alerts for company-wide distribution.Develops site safety culture through Communicating OHS direction, targets, programs and performance to all personnel and contractors as appropriate.
Identify hazards during site inspection. Immediately discuss with employees/contractors on-site. If not resolved, stop the job. Contact contractors' principle to arrange meeting or contact the employee's manager. Possibly ban contractor supervisor and contractor from the site. Possibly advise Safety Manager to launch disciplinary action against employee.
