Job Purpose
Under the general supervision of a Senior Associate II, establish and maintain field, screenhouse, and greenhouse experiments for gas exchange operations/measurements using infra-red gas analyzers. Collect, process, and organize gas exchange data in a
ready-to-analyze format. Maintain all analyzers in good working condition at all times. Perform minor trouble shooting and other duties related to maintenance of work areas and daily operations of the unit.
This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and may only be filled by permanent citizens of the Philippines.

Roles and Responsibilities
With the guidance of the supervisor, perform/conduct activities to support experiment/s in the field of photosynthesis and or plant gas exchange
Provide technical support to the team in assembly, maintenance, and troubleshooting and minor repair of all infrared gas analyzers (IRGA) to ensure good working condition at all times
Assist in conduct of field experiments from pre-transplanting to harvesting operations
Collect and input data using electronic device/computer and contribute to basic analysis
Lead day-to-day operation of activities related to gas exchange/photosynthesis measurements
Perform specific procedures related to and prepare materials to be used in all gas exchange/photosynthesis measurements and operations
Optimize performance of all Li-Cor 6400 portable photosynthesis system through proper calibration, constant monitoring, and minor troubleshooting
Implement, oversee, and monitor all experimental activities from start to completion and ensure that all operations are within the standard quality assurance protocols
Facilitate data downloading and analyses of data collected and ensure backup of all measured data
Lead and oversee contract workers during gas exchange operations and monitor efficiency
Implement and oversee all research activities related to gas exchange measurements following standard protocols
Monitor efficiency and performance of all units of Li-Cor photosynthesis system, perform minor troubleshooting, and maintain good inventory of materials to be used
Download all measured data, prepare appropriate templates for graph and tables, and back up all data
Close monitoring of workers or assistants during gas exchange to optimize efficiency
Assist in training key users, postdoctoral fellows, scholars, interns/on-the-job-trainees and technician on gas exchange measurements
Coordinate with other stakeholders regarding gas exchange needs, schedule of activities, protocols, etc.
Qualifications
High School graduate with 5 years of relevant work experience
College Undergraduate (at least 2 years) with 3 years of relevant work experience
Skills Required
Mandatory
Basic knowledge of MS Office programs such as Excel, Word and PowerPoint or
related software
Preferred
Experience in growing rice and or knowledge in rice production
Knowledge in the operation and basic troubleshooting of infrared gas analyzers, e.g. Li-Cor 6400 photosynthesis system.
