JOB FUNCTION:

1.1. Operating simulators, computed tomography (CT) scanners, medical linear accelerator and other treatment units for accurate patient set-up and delivery of planned course of radiation therapy prescribed by the radiation oncologist
1.2. Documentation of treatment based on approved radiation treatment plan
II. SPECIFIC DUTIES. Supervision to
2.1. Ensure that patients receiving radiation treatment understand the importance of treatment procedures
2.2. Ensure that the correct patient set-up is applied in the CT Scan for treatment planning and not for diagnostic purposes for accurate planning
2.3. Cautiously and carefully position the patient such that the useful beam is directed and limited to the anatomical area to be treated
2.4. Apply appropriate shielding blocks, bolus and wedge filters as prescribed in the treatment plan whenever necessary to achieve high accuracy of dose distribution within the tumor volume
2.5. Double check all treatment parameters before setting the treatment timer/monitor unit setting according to the prescribed treatment dose
2.6. Assist the Radiation Oncologist and the Medical Physicist in ensuring that the treatment portal or location is accurate and that all instructions and information regarding administration of prescribed dose are clearly recorded, complete, and can be understood by all concerned parties
2.7. Ensure that the fractionated dose is administered as prescribed on a daily basis and that the correct patient receives the appropriate prescribed dose in the correct treatment site
2.8. Maintain daily records and document technical details of the treatment administered to the patient in the designated patient treatment chart
2.9. Observe the clinical progress of the patient undergoing treatment which may affect treatment procedures to be reported to the Medical Physicist and to the attending Radiation Oncologist
2.10. Perform and document the results of routine tasks (e.g., daily quality assurance) for the safe use of licensed machine as established in the radiation safety program
2.11. Assist the Medical Physicist in the calibration, quality control and maintenance of the teletherapy equipment including the support diagnostic equipment such as the CT Scan
2.12. To be always alert and prepared for any radiation emergency incidents or accidents that may arise during the course of the radiation therapy treatment
2.13. Inform the Radiation Protection Officer (RPO) of any abnormal incidents or accidents that may occur in the radiotherapy facility, especially incidents that deal with the treatment of the patient and the machines used in treatment
2.14. Assist the RPO in maintaining an up-to-date inventory, stored or disposed of accessories used in the treatment procedures
2.15. Maintain the required room temperature in the radiation treatment area and to keep all treatment accessories in proper order
2.16. Such other functions which may be deemed necessary for proper machine operation and precise delivery of planned radiation treatment
2.17. Perform any other task that may be assigned by the superior from time to time
