Do you have 5+ years experience in project accounting for construction/manufacturing projects?
We are looking for a talented Project Accountant to be assigned to our client, a builder of custom, high performance & efficient aluminum superyachts in Australia. You will have an opportunity to work with experienced construction and design teams and see the completion of a superyacht for export to international markets. The role would suit an experienced Project Accountant with a positive attitude, proactive and looking to develop their career in a fast-paced environment. You will demonstrate integrity, attention to detail and ability to get along with a diverse team.
The role mainly focus on project administration and cost monitoring:
Develop and implement new hire onboarding process including process and system induction;
Monitor and review that weekly timesheets are recorded to the right cost codes;
Reconcile timesheet from payroll with the project costing system;
Prepare accurate project cash inflows and outflows for the project;
Work closely with the Financial Controller to ensure all costs are accurately captured in the project management system tool;
Monitor monthly actual costs and investigate and rectify any discrepancies on time;
Review supplier requisitions with procurement team and ensure requisitions and purchase orders are in line with project budgets;
Attend regular project reviews and ensure estimated cost to complete is in line with project schedule and challenge any deviations to cost budget baselines;
Ensure Costs to Complete, Actual costs and Estimate At Completion are accurately reported in the project dashboard;
Support the Financial Controller in preparing the monthly project cost report with relevant comments and robust explanation of the project financial position including any deviations on budgets;
Ensure all documentation - design approvals, rework and variations are documented and reported and in compliance with the financial and project approval process;
Support the Financial Controller in generating of ad-hoc reporting, variation analysis and other tasks as requested;
Assist in the set up of project accounts within the ERP system and any support systems at inception of each project, including correct allocation of cost baseline budgets in line with approved budget;
Support the Financial Controller in applying relevant accounting standards and principles applicable to each project;
Support the Financial Controller in anticipating and reporting risks that might create delay and cost overruns for each milestones;
Propose corrective actions and opportunities for cost savings on the projects;
Regular data hygiene - tasks closures, project dates within ERP and other systems;
Be a confident communicator to discuss and liaise with a range of different individuals in the project team;
Deliver projects in accordance with company guidelines, including for health, safety and security, contracts and procurement;
Bring energy, commitment and a desire to learn in a fast-paced and dynamic industry.
Requirements
Minimum 6 years experience in project accounting, budget management, controlling project budgets and delivering savings;
2 + years post qualification experience within shipbuilding or construction environment is preferred but not essential;
Track record of successful end-to-end delivery of construction projects, from conceptualization through to project completion;
Strong stakeholder management skills across all levels;
Ability to prioritize large workloads;
Excellent communications, presentation, interpersonal and problem-solving skills;
A clear head and the ability to remain calm in a fast-paced environment;
Candidate must possess at least a Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy or other Finance-related course;
CPA/CIMA is an advantage but not required;
Demonstrable experience in the use of ERP software for projects;
Practical experience in the use of Data Analytics tools;
Proficient in the use of Excel and PowerPoint;
High attention to detail and accuracy;
Ability to work under pressure with minimal supervision and to tight deadlines.
