Job Description
The Plant Manager is responsible for managing a facility and personnel to produce animal nutrition products as safely and efficiently as possible while meeting all of requirements of corporate and government guidelines. This includes setting performance standards, establishing budgets, managing costs, hiring and training, employee relations, safety compliance, and implementation of all maintenance, production, and customer service excellence programs.
20% - Safety
Ensure that Employees s are trained to perform their jobs safely and to accept responsibility for their own safety performance and safety behaviors.
Provide the leadership to develop and direct a safety program and a safety culture that supports the goal of Only Zero is Acceptable.
Actively assure that all incidents are investigated in depth and reported on time.
Understand safety statistics and how they compare to the company goals.
Get personally involved in all areas of safety management at meetings, inspections, investigations, and audits.
Understand and comply with the laws that relate to safety in our business, i.e. OSHA, local ordinances, etc.
Hold well planned, informative safety meetings with all plant and contract personnel at least monthly.
Have an active near miss reporting program and effectively follow up on the corrective actions.
50% - Productivity and Continuous Improvement
Establish per mill capacity based on TPH per die size. Determine the machine assignment per SKU resulting in optimized change-over and set-up time.
Utilize OEE report for equipment performance and as basis for continuous improvement.
Identify critical processes / bottleneck operations and execute back-up plans to support continuous production.
Monitor process yield, analyze reasons for losses and implement improvement actions.
Execute Production Plans per sched.
Review operating plan and headcount requirements based on sales forecast and run at optimum efficiency.
Evaluate automation options for manual processes.
Optimize space utilization
Implement a Continuous Improvement program that will result into an empowered and engaged work force.
20% - Facilities, Environmental Management, Compliance
Oversee the maintenance of the facility's physical condition and appearance which reflect the standards of quality and service of our business.
Prepare capital plan and AFE for the upkeep of the machines and facility, for compliance, and for capacity improvement
Follow specifications that follow the guidelines for general repair and capital projects.
Use the preventive maintenance audit system to improve maintenance and operational efficiency.
Manage improvements and repairs cost effectively while maintaining the business unit standards in housekeeping, safety, quality, service and brand image.
Maintain a good 5S program
Develop and enforce a security program that protects assets and safeguards the corporation against third party liabilities.
Complete annual environmental audit and insure compliance in all areas.
Maintain a record of all Plants ' ECC and operating permits, including expiration dates.
Apply for permit renewals, when necessary, or any time that physical or equipment changes are made to the facility.
Have a training program to insure that all employees are informed of hazardous materials, spill reporting and other pertinent environmental activities.
10% - Product Quality
Assures production processes are compliant with quality control procedures
Strict implementation of formulation control in order to assure that products are produced according to the latest version.
Monitors quality performance and implement measures to reduce non-conforming products.
Maintain good product traceability
Ensure that Employees are trained in using quality tools to analyze non-conformity and identify corrective and preventive actions.
