CEBU WOMAN'S CLUB, INC.

Brief Background and History Profile of CWCI

In 1912, a group of women in Cebu gathered informally with common concerns for the welfare of women of Cebu and neighboring provinces. Its vision/mission is anchored on the upliftment of the welfare and education of women in maternal and child care by providing a timely, relevant, and transformative health programs and services, attuned to the needs of Cebu's women and children especially from the marginalized sector of society.

The Cebu Woman's Club, Inc. (CWCI) was formally established in 1918 with the Founding officers and Board of Directors sworn into office. The members of the club unselfishly and diligently took turns in attending to the needs of the centers, giving lectures, motivating women to seek medical care, soliciting donations and holding benefit activities to raise fund to support these activities. While giving generously of their time, resources, and expertise, no member of CWCI received remuneration nor compensation.

In 1922, the CWCI organized the Cebu Puericulture Center and Maternity House, Inc. (CPCMHI) and 6 other puericulture centers in the following years. However, with the establishment of barangay health centers by the government, only two centers are presently existing, the CPCMHI and the Mabolo Puericulture Center. CPCMHI got its own charter in 1973, but CWCI considers CPCMHI as its prime project and as such, is assured with total commitment by maintaining a pharmacy with a purpose of making the medicines available to its patients whether or not they can pay for this; and financial support to purchase modern equipment to make CPCMHI at par with the other hospitals in the locality.
