OPERATIONS MANAGER (SHIPPING)
 
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT), Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering, or a related field.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
 
Ship Operations Management
Oversee and coordinate daily ship operations to ensure efficient and safe vessel performance.
Monitor voyage planning, cargo handling, and compliance with maritime regulations.
Systems Maintenance Oversight
Manage the maintenance and repair schedules of shipboard systems and equipment to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime. Coordinate with technical teams to address mechanical and engineering issues promptly.
Regulatory Compliance
Ensure all shipping operations comply with international maritime laws, safety standards, environmental regulations, and company policies. Maintain up-to-date knowledge of relevant regulations and implement necessary changes.
Commercial Management
Develop and manage commercial strategies to optimize vessel utilization and profitability.
Negotiate contracts, freight rates, and service agreements with clients and partners.
Cost Control and Budget Management
Monitor operational budgets, control costs, and implement cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety or service quality. Prepare financial reports and forecasts related to shipping operations.
Supplier and Vendor Relationship Management
Establish and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, contractors, and service providers.
Evaluate supplier performance, negotiate terms, and ensure timely delivery of goods and services.
Team Leadership and Coordination
Lead and supervise operational staff, including ship crews and shore-based teams. Provide training, performance evaluations, and foster a culture of safety, efficiency, and continuous improvement.
Risk Management and Problem Resolution
Identify operational risks and develop mitigation strategies. Respond promptly to operational issues, emergencies, or incidents to minimize impact on shipping activities.
Reporting and Documentation
Maintain accurate records of ship operations, maintenance activities, compliance audits, and commercial transactions. Prepare and present regular reports to senior management.
