EXPATRIATE SITE BASED ROLE - FIFO ROSTER (6:3)
THE COMPANY
West African Resources Limited is an ASX listed gold company (trading symbol: WAF). The Company commenced production of the Sanbrado Gold Mine in Burkina Faso, West Africa.
The Sanbrado Project is a 2.4 Mtpa Gold project in West Africa encompasses both underground and open pit mines. The Project has an initial 10-year mine life, including 6.5 years of underground mining, with Probable Reserves of 1.7 million ounces (21.6Mt at 2.4g/t gold).
The Project will have average annual production over the first 5 years of mine life of 217,000 ounces gold and a 14-month post-tax pay back on US$186 million pre-production capital costs. Project economics are robust, with AISC of
The Company has recently acquired the 1.1Moz Toega Gold Project, which is in trucking distance of the Sanbrado operation with the aim of increasing gold production and mine life.
THE ROLE
West African Resources is seeking to employ an experienced OHS Manager to oversee the provision of a high standard of OHS, Emergency Response and Medical Services for the Sanbrado Gold Operations.
This role will suit an OHS professional who is practical and proactive, and who can work collaboratively with operational teams and contractors to sustain a safety culture across all facets of the operation.
The focus of the OHS Manager role will be to;
Lead the ongoing review and education of obligations under the Safety Management Plan and Integrated Contractor / Client Safety Management Plans;
Continuous improvement and education of OHS related policies and procedures;
Engage with the expatriate and local workforce to ensure that safety standards are trained and adopted as part of operating procedures;
Maintain OHS and compliance related reporting systems;
Record and report on incident, injury and safety related reporting and statistics;
Monitor safety statistics to identify trends and develop strategies to mitigate future risks and incidents;
Proactively promote health and safety initiatives;
Identify and establish effective working relationships with medical, injury management, training and safety service providers and suppliers;
Manage OHS related documentation to ensure compliance with Burkina Faso requirements (including preparation / translation of documents in English and French):
Ensure that all OHS related documentation is maintained in the established document control system;
Manage the delivery of ERT and OHS / induction training;
Ensure a high standard of medical care, health services and facility management;
Lead / participate in safety related investigations, risk assessments and audits;
Track outcomes of incidents and hazard investigations to identify and communicate impact and change across the operation;
Mentor participation in safety meetings, including the establishment and ongoing training of OHS advisors and safety representatives;
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors to ensure that the Company's health and safety standards and objectives are achieved.
To be considered for this role, applicants will present the following qualification, skills and experience:
Tertiary / recognised OHS qualifications;
A drive and passion for safe work practices which exceed industry standards using innovative initiatives and education;
Be a proficient user of audit and investigation tools (ICAM or similar) and industry information management systems;
Previous experience working and leading a small health, safety and medical team;
A proven and proactive approach to developing skills and competency for emergency response preparedness;
Excellent working knowledge and application of Open Pit and Underground Mine Safety Management Plans (underground mining experience is essential);
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
English speaking (essential), French speaking (highly regarded);
A proven ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with operational personnel, service providers, contactors and community.
Applicants who have previous expatriate experience will be highly regarded but is not essential.
ROSTER AND CONDITIONS
The successful applicant will be offered an excellent remuneration package, commensurate with skills and experience, expatriate travel to and from the site, 6 week on / 3 week off roster cycle.
Site accommodation: new camp / village with excellent food, accommodation and recreational facilities.
