As the Medical Tourism Director, you will be the driving force behind the development and growth of NEOM's medical tourism services. Your primary responsibility will be to provide visionary leadership and effective management of cross-functional teams consisting of clinical, business, and tourism/hospitality professionals. By leveraging your expertise in business development, healthcare management, and team leadership, you will shape the success of our new business ventures in the three clinical areas of preventative care, musculoskeletal, and diabetes. This position requires a strong background in business development, healthcare management, and an in-depth understanding of the medical tourism industry. The role will oversee clinical, business, and tourism/hospitality teams to create and launch three unique business offerings that combine a fully-integrated clinical Centers of Excellence (COE) and ultra-luxury wellness resort.
Key Accountabilities & Activities:
Leadership and Team Management:
Provide strong leadership and guidance to a multidisciplinary team, fostering a collaborative and high-performing work environment.
Set clear goals, expectations, and performance targets for team members, ensuring alignment with NEOM's strategic objectives.
Empower and inspire team members, encouraging innovation, creativity, and continuous improvement.
Foster a culture of accountability, promoting individual and team growth through mentorship, coaching, and professional development initiatives.
Maintain positive and productive working relationships with relevant internal and external stakeholders (e.g. ecosystem strategies, broader tourism/hospitality activities, infrastructure/logistics stakeholders, regulators, etc.).
Align with Regions and Partners to ensure alignment to regional requirements and related destination strategies/offerings.
Work with regions, sector and central functions to drive financial business case, funding, and entity establishment.
Business Strategy and Development:
Develop and execute a comprehensive business strategy for medical tourism in the areas of preventative care, musculoskeletal care, and diabetes management.
Lead the identification of market trends, conduct thorough market research, and analyze the competitive landscape to drive business growth and identify new opportunities.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement innovative new business offerings that align with NEOM's vision and goals.
Establish strategic partnerships and alliances with healthcare providers, local and international organizations, hospitality providers, hotel groups, innovative companies, and other stakeholders to enhance NEOM's medical tourism services.
Develop and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including healthcare providers, government officials, and industry organizations.
Work with regulator, sector and other stakeholders to drive the development of the related Medical Tourism environment, including destination promotion, travel/logistics, international partners/insurers, regulations, etc
Policies, Process, Clinical, Regulatory Oversight:
Collaborate closely with partner organizations, medical professionals, and clinical teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality client care and exceptional clinical outcomes.
Provide guidance and support in the development of clinical protocols, standards, and guidelines for each clinical area.
Collaborate with medical specialists to identify innovative treatments and procedures that can be offered to international patients.
Ensure alignment of medical tourism activities with international standards and guidelines.
Support team and contribute to the identification of opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, incorporating leading practices, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.
Maintain marketplace knowledge and awareness of sector leading practice, and identify recommendations for corrective measures, updates and improvements where required.
Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements related to medical tourism in NEOM.
Facility Establishment and Management:
Set up and manage specialist centers of excellence in Musculoskeletal disorder, Diabetes and Metabolic conditions, and Personalised Prevention and the associated medical wellness resorts that integrate medical services with wellness and lifestyle offerings.
Work with partners, regions and asset teams to ensure effective and timely delivery of facilities.
Work with partners on developing operating model, and build/lead a high-performance team to achieve business goals and objectives.
Develop and manage budgets for the medical tourism sector in NEOM, ensuring that financial targets are met or exceeded.
Lead the creation of corporate entities that will deliver the combined COE and resort offerings.
Marketing and Promotion:
Serve as the figurehead and public face of NEOM's Medical Tourism business and participate in industry conferences, trade shows, and networking events to promote NEOM's medical tourism services and establish key partnerships.
Oversee the business development team to develop effective marketing strategies and promotional campaigns to attract international patients.
Ensure the branding and messaging align with NEOM's values and positioning as a premier medical tourism destination.
Background, Skills & Qualifications:
Advanced degree in healthcare administration, business management, or a related field.
Proven leadership and management experience (at least 15 years) in developing and growing businesses, preferably within the healthcare or medical tourism industry.
Past experience creating and managing medical wellness resorts.
Proven experience in developing and implementing successful medical tourism strategies and marketing campaigns.
Strong understanding of clinical practices and healthcare operations, with experience in preventative care, musculoskeletal care, and/or diabetes management.
Excellent business acumen and strategic thinking, with a track record of developing and executing successful business strategies.
Exceptional leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse teams.
Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and negotiate with various stakeholders.
