Job Purpose
Centralized breeding operations are the key to efficient and rapid varietal development and delivery. This newly created role will actively assist the Platform Leader of Integrative Research Support (IRS) Platform to execute professional breeding support and services in IRRI HQ. The incumbent will be the focal point of liaison between Rice Breeding and IRS. This role will be responsible for effectively planning and delivering on the seasonal and yearly demands and supply of all breeding program needs while working closely with IRS and Product development and Varietal Replacement (PDVR) teams. The role will also work closely with the Platform Leader to identify and develop new services in support of PDVR and the IRS teams. The key responsibility of the role is to create seamless communication between these two teams and strengthen the operations for effective scale up and on time delivery. The successful applicant must have the managerial skills and experience as prerequisites to liaising between a diverse team of scientists and researchers and research service providers, preferably in an international set-up.
Reporting to the Platform Leader of IRS, the incumbent will/must:
Serve as the second-in-command and successor to the Platform Leader of IRS
A single point of contact for end-to-end rice breeding support by IRS
Function as an Operation Manager for IRS in partnership with Rice Breeding Innovation Platform
Working closely with the Platform Leader to jointly develop, implement and improve the service, support, data management and communication systems within the Platform
Together with the platform leader, explore and cultivate innovative ideas in the delivery of research services, facilities and functions in support of IRS
Commit to deliver high value research services and support across the rice breeding network
Implement practices that drive continuous improvement to IRS platform in particular and IRRI in general
Manage resource requirements to support IRS needs in delivery research support agenda
Jointly with the platform leader, develop and establish IRS into a full-fledged business unit in tandem with the mandate of OneCG
This position will be based at the IRRI Headquarters, Los Baños, Philippines and is open for international applications.
Roles and Responsibilities
Serve as the second-in-command and successor to the Platform Leader of IRS
Function as an Operation Manager in partnership with rice breeding to support end-to-end service to rice breeding
Single point of contact between Rice Breeding Platform and IRS platform
Work with IRS platform leader to develop new services and improve current services
Proactive involvement in establishing and scaling-up IRS operations globally including national partners
Jointly develop capacity-building strategies to prepare and enhance IRS teams performance in service delivery
Work closely with IRS and RBI team to create a seamless service for rice breeding platform
Single point of contact for rice breeding platform to convey their service needs
Assist IRS Platform Leader to plan and ensure availability of resource for quality service
Communicate with regional breeding teams and research support hubs for effective scale up
Ensure rigorous implementation of the SoPs and best practices aligned with breeding strategies
Under the leadership of Platform Leader, prepare grant proposals to donor organizations for infrastructure modernization needs of IRS, hubs and national partners as appropriate
Quality and on-time service to rice breeding platform at all times
Ensure all research service commitments are planned and executed well
Monitoring system for all research support activities and deliveries
Create world class research support in tandem with One CG needs and requirements
Proactively develop solutions to the needs customers and clients
Qualifications
M.Sc. with 8 to 10 years' experience or PhD with 3 to 5 years' experience in managing research operations preferably in the area of rice breeding
Skills Required

Enthusiastic individual should have strong interest in the research activity with a strong sense of accountability, have willingness to learn new techniques, provide assistance to the platform leader, and possesses strong verbal/written communication and organizational skills
