About us
This position sits within the Measurement & Analysis Capability (MAC) Group, part of Dysons world class Research, Design and Development (RDD) department. We are a mechatronics team, practicing a diverse range of software, mechanical and electrical/electronic skills. We are the team behind some of Dyson's intelligence product features, such as the Auto Mode floor type detection and dust detection features in our cordless vacuums, as well as other cutting-edge features that are currently in confidential development. In addition to our product development projects, we also develop bespoke solutions for internal automated testing and data analysis applications. These bespoke solutions enable both our team and fellow Dyson engineers to pioneer new technologies in situations where existing solutions are not available. As a member of the MAC Group, you will play a pivotal role in bringing intelligence to life in Dyson products, while enabling the development of other pioneering new technologies through customised test/analysis solutions.
Your key responsibilities will include:
Developing advanced mechatronic product features, with a particular focus on intelligence and sensing capabilities
Responsible for owning feature requirements and risks, acting as the main point of contact for stakeholders and the wider project team
Lead or collaborate within a multidisciplinary cross-team in delivering the product feature o Specify sensors, develop signal processing, and control algorithms to achieve desired product behaviour and requirements
Manage the implementation and integration of the feature in the product, including tolerance stacks, FMEA, and verification plans
Specify data collection, calibration, and/or test methods for the development of the feature if a precedent does not exist
Creating automated test/analysis systems for internal applications
Lead or collaborate with team members in designing and build the mechanical components/assemblies, electrical circuits, and software application of the test/analysis system, occasionally in collaboration with external vendors
Commission and ensure the successful functioning of the test/analysis system before handing over to stakeholders
Making valuable contributions to the advancement of the team and department
Mentor and/or manage team members as appropriate, fostering their growth and development
Champion best practices and establish high standards within the team
Continuously enhance the team's capabilities and methodologies, either by improving existing practices or developing new ones
About you
To be successful in this role you will need:
Extensive experience in R&D, product development, or test systems development with a strong multidisciplinary understanding across software, mechanical & electrical/electronic disciplines
Proven expertise in sensing, data acquisition, signal processing, control systems or automation applications o Proficiency in fluid dynamics, accelerometers, image processing or machine learning would be highly advantageous
Skills in developing test/data analysis software using one or more of the following:
LabVIEW (roughly to CLD level)
Python o MATLAB /Simulink
C/C++
Skills in one or more of the following:
Mechanical design/CAD
Electrical/electronic circuit or PCBA design o Machine vision/image processing
Machine learning o IoT
A deep passion for engineering, innovation, problem-solving and elegant design
