Are you tired of having to explain the benefits of a fully synched model to planners? Do you love creating mind-blowing CAD models but still like getting dirt in your boots once in a while? Read on!
We are Laminar Projects!
If you have already heard about us, you are probably reading this because you are tired of the typical old fashioned and chaotic ways of doing things in construction. But in case you haven't: we are a Construction Consultancy & Tech Startup Hybrid!
We help construction projects optimize their project management as a consultancy and then we use our revenues to develop our own software products. We do things the Laminar Way, that is, we bring control and clarity to projects by implementing pragmatic solutions using a mix of latest technology, our own processes, and a big dose of common sense.
We deeply cherish our industry, with all its flaws and challenges. We believe that being a part of the construction process is being a part of what makes civilisation grow, and we have nothing but praise for the people that are helping to it.
Vision (Why we exist)
We exist so that everyone in our team can thrive in a high impact community that:
Connects us with meaningful relationships
Inspires us to develop ourselves to become better humans
Empowers us to pursue our own learning adventures
We believe that, by first doing this, we can achieve the highest levels of value for the world.
Missions (What we are aiming for)
To fully digitise the construction of human civilisation
To create a new type of organisation that enables human flourishing while delivering a huge positive impact on society

The Role
We are currently looking for top-notch 4D/CAD Modelers to join our team. As a dynamic and tech-driven startup, curiosity and ingenuity are two of the main traits that we love about our applicants!
How is a typical day in our team?
As a modeler, you might be thinking this position would mostly be in the back end of things, producing drawings or models to support the planning team. Well, not here! We are keen on getting you participating in the overall process of delivering great visuals (alongside great plans) to our clients. Also, it's particularly important to bring that awareness of added value to our planning team as well, as you will be acting as a subject matter expert on this topic.
As far as responsibilities go, you should be able to:
Liaise with project team/planners to understand what needs to be produced. A big focus would be on you understanding the process and not just creating models for the sake of creating them!
Review information received (regardless of format) and put a small plan of action to produce what is needed, highlight if any critical pieces of information are missing.
Create sequence-ready models for the planning team.
Help our 4D planning team by following programme coding/programme structures and best practices.
Bring clarity to planners who are using your models. We're really keen on transparency and showcasing value added with our tools, so it's only natural that our team can understand and use those tools as well!
Bridge the gap between modelling and planning. Should you be interested in learning more about planning and project controls, we've got you covered with some in-project training provided.
Candidates for this position should have:
2years+ construction-based CAD experience, having modelled temporary/permanent works, logistics, structural, civil. (Required)
Experience in "getting your hands dirty" in project construction: delivery of construction projects (site engineering, construction works, etc.) (Required)
Providing the technical link between 2D/3D CAD and 4D modelling for project planners in the construction industry (Required)
Effective communication skills (Required)
It would be great if the candidate would also have:
4D/Synchro experience (Nice to have)
Having a working knowledge of BIM processes and national BIM standards (Nice to have)
Experience of customising and programming within CAD applications (Nice to have)
Driving dump trucks (optional but highly welcomed!)
If you don't think you meet all the criteria but still are interested in the job, please apply! Nobody checks every box, and we're looking for someone excited to join the team!
Salary and Benefits
Full time contract, fully remote.
For Modelers, base salary would start between £20.5k and £28.5k + Health Insurance
You will be supported to excel in whichever areas you are most interested in! With Laminar, development is unbounded.
Application
In terms of application, we usually start with a screening call to tell you what we are all about in a small, casual conversation. That helps you to know us a bit better and tell us a bit about yourself. We also ask you to prepare some examples of your previous work, to help us gauge your level
We would then have an assessment stage with one of our Directors, where we would have a presentation exercise to understand how you would present your work to a client, as well as a small modeling exercise where we provide you with a high-level drawing of a project and you would produce the CAD model for it. After that, it's down to the offer stage!
Usually, we try to make the process as smooth as possible by ensuring we would get back to you in a maximum of two weeks.
We get hundreds of applications so please include a short summary/cover letter explaining why you want to join us and what you think you bring to the team - We aren't a giant faceless corporation; we really care about the people who want to join our team so all letters will be read by one of the Directors.
