Organizational Setting
For more than four decades, FAO has been working with the Government of the Philippines, civil society, community-based organizations and the private sector to address challenges in the agriculture, fisheries and forestry sector. Joint efforts have included increasing sustainability in agricultural production, promoting value-adding practices, improving post-harvest management, enhancing productivity and increasing the resilience of agriculture-based livelihoods to natural disasters, climatic hazards and armed conflict.
Reporting Lines
The GIS Specialist will report to the Assistant FAOR Programme.
Technical Focus
The project "Technical Capacity Support to the Agri-Industrial Business Corridors (ABC)" aims to improve capacities of ABC implementers on technical, agri-business, management, and entrepreneurial skills to contribute to the improvement of agribusiness investment climate in the Philippines. Among others, it will also facilitate linkages between the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Agrarian Reform on this topic and help link agrarian reform beneficiaries' organizations (ARBOs) to the market.
Tasks and responsibilities
The GIS Specialist will undertake the following tasks:
a) Prepare GIS-based base and thematic maps for the study area.
b) Prepare GIS maps indicating the location of the production area, products, services and facilities of the priority commodities to be supported by the Sustainable Agriculture and Fishery Enterprises (SAFE) Innovation Hub in Sual, Pangasinan.
c) Delineate the ABC within the study area with the project stakeholders.
d) Prepare other analytical maps as maybe required by the other members of the Project Team.
CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING
Minimum Requirements:
University degree in Computer Engineering
At least 5 years of relevant work experience in GIS Planning, Training and Spatial Analysis
Working Knowledge of English and Filipino
A National of the Philippines or resident in the country with a regular work permit

Preferably have own licensed software and equipment to use
Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and Filipino
General knowledge and skills in the use of standard office software, such as MS Office (Word, Excel, Power Point).
