Position Summary:
The position is responsible for tactical fuel purchasing for all RCL brands, requiring extensive knowledge of petroleum supply worldwide in terms of availability, economics, emissions regulation, and legal aspects of fuel supply
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Lead tactical bunker procurement for all RCL brands (including TUI and Hapag Lloyd) in strict accordance with RCL contract terms and hedging rules, requiring email and phone monitoring extensively after hours
Monitor petroleum and bunker markets to purchase fuel at optimal pricing globally in non-contract ports via Platts, Argus, Bloomberg, MABUX and Bunkerworld
Discern global economic/political changes that could affect purchasing of fuel, and track market conditions, price trends, and futures markets related to bunker fuel
Progressively develop global energy market knowledge to allow RCG to procure in various locations while assessing risk/reward of each bunker opportunity
Calculate unsettled bunker rates to establish correct accounting accruals
Analyze and monitor supplier contracts to ensure optimal performance against the market, compliance with contractual obligations and to determine the need for future alterations
Work with DNV lab to interpret bunker analysis as an assurance that ISO 8217 and SOLAS quality parameters are met or make a recommendation on further steps based on quality deviations (debunkering, quality claim, regulatory exception), and file detailed claims with supplier as needed
Review survey report for every bunkering to establish correct fuel quantity is received and accounted in order to make escalate corrective action necessary on a case-by-case basis
Liaise with Global Marine Operations and Environmental Stewardship to monitor and ensure compliance with mandatory and voluntary emissions controls
Support Fuel Forecast accuracy by verifying rates and assist in reconciling variances
Prepare and report on fuel metrics to the VP of SCM and Director of Fuel Procurement
Formulate strategic bunker plans for each vessel to optimize favorable markets and competitive supplier contracts, as well as to mitigate the risks associated with poorly operated ports and unfavorable pricing formulas
Expenditure Limit $50,000.
$900M fuel procurement spent worldwide in addition to highly variable cost of our hedging program.
Qualifications, Knowledge & Skills:
Bachelor degree in business, finance or engineering required. Master degree preferred. 2-4 years of experience in petroleum procurement required.
Must be proficient in both petroleum and UCC contract terms
Must have expertise in Petroleum commodity markets, specifically Energy Information Administration reports, Bunkerworld, Bloomberg, and Platts
Must have working knowledge of ISO and SOLAS fuel standards and their impact on shipping operation
Must have extensive knowledge of physical supply logistics, fuel cargo production, blending and refining operations
Must have excellent financial analytical and presentation skills
Knowledge of both GAAP and FASB to support expense accruals and fuel hedging compliance (preferred)
Skilled in Microsoft Office Application, BunkerMaster, Global View Pricing Software, JDE (preferred)
Understanding of the effects that fuel quality/specifications have on fuel efficiency and engine performance
Understanding of typical vessel fuel characteristics ¿ fuel types, tank sizes, daily consumption, grade and specification restrictions/requirements (preferred)
