BASIC FUNCTION
The Follow-Up Nurse assists the Follow-Up Officer in the successful management and operation of the unit. He also makes certain that newborns with deficient results in their G6PD on their newborn screening are recalled and are referred for confirmatory testing.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists in the follow-up / verification of unsatisfactory samples;
Assists in the formulation, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of policies and procedures related to the function and operations of the unit;
Ensures that efficient verification and recall of patients with unsatisfactory samples;
Secures that follow-up or tracking actions have a clearly defined:
Starting actions (e.g. telephone call or letter)
Monitoring actions (specimen monitoring, follow-up calls/letter)
End points (when follow-up activities have exhausted all reasonable avenues of contact)
