Job Description:
Job Summary:
This position is responsible for the development and implementation of new products in sweet & beverage category and works closely together with the sales team to develop concepts to deliver growth for the business.
Manages a wide range of sweet & beverage projects, working with day-to-day requests between departments. Interacts with QA, production, customer service, warehouse, account managers, purchasing manager and the rest of the technical department.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Coordinate the evaluation of ingredients developed internally or from external sources and assess the potential for flavor creation.
Formulate new flavor creations (top-notes and complete flavor blends) or modify existing flavors to meet project requirements.
Serve as technical expert and advisor to internal and external partners for ingredient and flavor performance for selected flavor types.
Manage assigned projects according to project management guidelines.
Develop flavors which meet good manufacturing practices, scale-up, regulatory compliance, production guidelines, etc.
Prepare flavor samples for creation/application needs, performance testing, etc.
Establish and maintain effective relationships with our internal partners.
Share knowledge using appropriate tools and Devex.
Maintain a safe, clean and organized laboratory environment in accordance to EH&S policies.
Ensure that all raw materials used and all products developed or selected for customer briefs are compliant with legal, religious and commercial requirements as appropriate.
Support HACCP and GMP programs.
Initiate value optimization projects and set some targets to generate value.
Train a junior flavorist
Education & Experience:
University degree/Polytechnic diploma in Food Science, Chemistry or related area with +8 years of experience as a flavorist (sweet & beverage focus) after completion of an accepted industry flavorist training program.
Demonstrates expert level tasting skills and ability to understand how to adjust a flavor formulation in the direction intended.
Expert level knowledge of raw materials and flavor ingredients to be able to formulate flavors (topnotes and complete flavor blends) to deliver flavor performance.
Proven understanding of flavor performance implications of interactions between flavor ingredients, food matrixes and processing conditions.
Understanding of common flavor creation solvent and carrier systems, and formulating suitable delivery systems for various application bases.
Ability to interface with internal and external partners and customers and effectively discuss the flavor creation needs for sweet & beverages and other flavor types and provide direction to help solve flavor performance issues in their applications.
Good knowledge of local and regional regulatory requirements for flavors.
