Job Description
A lifeguard is responsible to oversee all activities within the pool area. The lifeguard will maintain constant surveillance of all persons in the pool facility, acting immediately & appropriately to secure the safety of all in the event of emergency
1.PERFORMANCE DUTIES: a.Follow "Normal Operating Procedures" as published by VIS. b.Maintain continuous surveillance of swimming pool area.c. Perform headcount of people involved in a water sport on a regular basis.
d.Call out warnings to people who may be in imminent danger.e.Provide safety information to people prior to them entering the pool area.f.Provide safety information to people prior to them entering the pool area.
g.Supervise swimmers to ensure that they are swimming within the safety protocols.h.Spot hazards or potential hazards and take measures to prevent accidents.i.Be pro-active and support the teachers with positive behaviour management.
j.Control unruly behaviour: evict individuals not adhering to behaviour/safety protocols.k.Ensure that water sports are done within the parameters of set rules and regulations.l.Perform rescues in the event of drowning or swimming accidents.
m.Perform first aid and CPR according to the demands of adverse situations.n.Perform pool chemical checks to ensure safety and hygiene.o.Maintain accurate records of pool use & chemical levels. Teach swimming techniques & safety education to swimmers
p.Safety of rescue tubes and buoys and perform needed maintenance.q.Ensure that all pool equipment is stored safely.
2. Communicate effectively: a. Speak clearly, honestly, and respectfully.b. Participate in setting "common agreements" for working with the PE staff.
3. Demonstrate care for students: a. Treat each child as uniquely gifted.b. Proactively build relationships with each student in class.
4. Support the teacher's disciplinary measures. a.Restate when necessary, the teacher's defined behaviour guidelines for their students.b.Encourage all students persistently catch each of them "doing good").
c. Help students learn self-discipline through appropriate use of correcting, chastening, and counselling.5. Demonstrate stewardship:
a.Use all school resources wisely as you are a living example to the students. b. Deliberately teach students to use resources wisely and to respect all property. c.Make students accountable to keep the pool area clean, neat, and tidy.
6. Demonstrate organizational skills: a. Attend all meetings consistently and punctually. b. Be on time for all supervision responsibilities.
Build community within and outside the school:a.Support administrators, teachers, and fellow support staff.b.Assist students beyond the classroom: playground, hallways, extracurricular sponsorship, personal guidance, etc.
c.Meet with staff members to listen, learn, and exchange advice for helping students meet the goals of the school.
Qualifications:
A minimum of 3 year(s) of working experience is required.
No minimum educational attainment is required for this position.
Female applicants are preferred for this role.
Understanding of Operation procedure. Excellent Swimmer. Excellent trouble shooter and able to make quick decisions.Focus attention to surroundings and swimmers.Diligence and alertness.Ability to check pool chemical conditions.
Licenses/Certifications Understanding of Operation procedure.First Aid Certificate including practical ability in CPR & AED. Fire Fighting Certificate. The application of life guarding surveillance and rescue techniques
