As an Editorial Assistant, with the support and guidance of the Senior Project Editor you will be responsible for working as a part of the Studio Team to support editorial and marketing activities, as well as project manage a small number of titles within our publishing program. Reporting to the Senior Project Editor, you will need to maintain high individual performance standards and create a positive working environment within the Studio Team.
Some of the things we'd expect you to do are to...
1. EDITORIAL & MARKETING ASSISTANCE
Manage the reprint correction process as directed by the Senior Project Editor, including tracking new correction requests, coordinating necessary design work, reviewing corrections, and providing corrected files to production.
Assist in the commissioning, curating, editing and reviewing of content to ensure products meet Hinkler's editorial standards.
Follow editorial procedures; ensuring editorial quality is maintained and that all guidelines and practices are followed.
Assist with checking page proofs to ensure edits and corrections have been made accurately, errors are kept to a minimum and check the accuracy and consistency of internals and covers as directed.
Support the Studio Team in maintaining correct processes and hitting key dates for sales advance information (AI) sheets, including sending regular deadline reminders and liaising with the sales team regarding their requirements.
Provide editorial and administrative support to the Editorial team members as needed
2. PROJECTS
Coordinate, with the assistance of the Senior Project Editor, a small number of fast-turnaround projects using repurposed content ('fast tracks').
With the support and assistance of the Senior Project Editor and the wider editorial team:
Review fast-track project briefs, arrange project kick-off meetings, and create budgets and schedules.
Mark up required changes for repurposed content and/or prepare flat plans as necessary to brief freelance or in-house designers to prepare new files.
Work to maintain project deadlines, keeping the Studio Services Director informed of any changes to schedules and budgets.
Maintain data of own projects as required within Onix Edit and Microsoft D365 systems
3. TEAMWORK AND COLLABORATION
Work in a collaborative way within the Studio Team to build and maintain a culture of kindness and respect.
With the guidance of the Senior Project Editor, proactively work towards achieving individual goals and team goals whilst ensuring that they are aligned with our goals.
Work with key stakeholders to develop and maintain respectful, effective and communicative relationships.
We would need you to be or have the following...
Working experience with Microsoft Suite and Adobe Acrobat.
Some experience (e.g., internship) in publishing or a related field.
Excellent grammar, oral/written language skills and editing and proofreading skills.
Ability to successfully work in a high-volume, fast-paced environment.
Strong time-management and problem-solving skills.
Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
Willingness to work both independently and as an effective team member.
Confidence, willingness to learn and a positive, proactive attitude.
Passion for books, crafts, games, and entertainment products.
Awareness of current industry trends.
Creative writing skills.
High-level English language skills.
Editing and proofreading skills.
Knowledge of British English is a must.
Organisation and time management skills.
