DRIVER / MECHANIC
Responsibilities
Performs mechanical work in the maintenance, gasoline and diesel motors, trucks, vans, and other maintenance equipment.
Examines vehicles to determine the extent of malfunction or damage and to determine what type of repairs needs to be made.
Performs routine vehicle maintenance work including tune-ups, lubrications, oil changes, tire changing and balancing.
Determines the kinds of tools and equipment needed to do a job.
Test drives vehicles and test components and systems.
Operates heavy and light equipment for testing and to perform assigned duties.
Performs administrative functions such as reviewing reports, researching technical literature, ordering needed parts, maintaining inventory of parts and supplies, obtaining necessary equipment and supplies, and purchasing materials or services as needed. Maintains work order, time, and parts records as needed.
Operates equipment and does related work as required.
Qualifications
With a valid driver’s license with code 1,2,3&8.
Considerable knowledge of the operation, repair and maintenance of motor vehicles and other mechanical equipment.
Considerable knowledge of the parts, tools and equipment used in a municipal fleet maintenance service operation.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Ability to read, understand and implement instructions from maintenance manuals.
Ability to follow both written and oral instructions and to organize and express thoughts and ideas, both orally and through written communication.
Has good work attitude and interpersonal skills.
