Description
Central Luzon State University in the Philippines has requested a Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) to serve as a Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DRRM) Communications Teaching Advisor to support the development of a course on Disaster, Risk, and Humanitarian Communication. The Department of Development Communication (DevCom) has revised its Bachelor of Science in Development Communication to be at par with the latest trends in development communication or communication for social change. Thus, one of its courses is Disaster, Risk, and Humanitarian Communication. This course aims to equip students with theoretically sound practice on the communication of disaster and risk, as well as humanitarian communication. Since this is a new course, most of the faculty members of the Department of Development Communication would benefit from additional support to teach this subject. While some senior faculty members have had experiences and research in disaster and risk communication, most of the faculty members are less familiar with the subject. In order to enhance the technical capability of its human resources, the Department of Development Communication has sponsored a number of its faculty members for doctorate studies in development communication at other institutions.
The assistance of a DRRM Communications Teaching Advisor will be key for the Department of Development Communication. The PCRV will help equip faculty members in designing a course syllabus and instructional materials on disaster, risk, and humanitarian communication, developing a radio program dedicated to disaster, risk, and climate change, as well as sharing their expertise in related projects within the University. The goal of this assignment is to provide technical expertise and assistance in DRRM Communications to the DevCom Department.
Please note that departure dates and other details of this project could change because of the uncertainties as Peace Corps and local partners resume volunteer operations. Candidates selected for this position will be arriving in the Philippines together as a group, so while the departure dates for the whole group could change, dates cannot be changed for individual candidates.
